UFC world champion Stipe Miocic gets a chance to avenge his previous defeat to former champ Junior dos Santos tonight at UFC 211 in Dallas.
Kenai Andrews checks in with his thoughts on the card.
UFC FIGHT PASS EARLY PRELIMS (6:30PM ET/3:30PM PT)
JOACHIM CHRISTENSEN (14-4-0) VS GADZHIMURAD ANTIGULOV (19-4-0)
Andrews: Christensen comes in with a nice reach advantage but I think the Russian gets it and ends the fight on the mat.
Andrews Prediction: Gadzhimurad Antigulov via submission
GABRIEL BENITEZ (19-6-0) VS ENRIQUE BARZOLA (13-3-1)
Andrews: Tough fight to call. Physically, they’re almost identical as Mike Goldberg would say, but I am edging towards the Mexican Benitez to grind it out a decision.
Andrews Prediction: Gabriel Benitez via split-decision
#12 JESSICA AGUILAR (19-5-0) VS CORTNEY CASEY (6-3-0)
Andrews: Tough one to call, as Aguilar looked ordinary in her debut to Clauida Gadelha. Casey is not Gadelham so we should see an improved performance from Jessica, but I still feel “Cast Iron” will get the fight to the ground and control.
Andrews Prediction: Cortney Casey via unanimous decision
RDS 2 PRELIMS (8 PM ET/5PM PT)
JAMES VICK (10-1-0) VS MARCO POLO REYES (8-3-0)
Andrews: Reyes has an impressive finish rate, but he’s giving up 5 inches in reach to a veteran guy with the hometown advantage and is coming off a good win himself over Abel Trujillo. Have to go with the hometown hero.
Andrews Prediction: James Vick via TKO
CHASE SHERMAN (9-3-0) VS RASHAD COULTER (8-1-0)
Andrews: Don’t blink. These two guys have 100% knockout rates so someone is going down. Sherman has the 5-inch reach so I am going with The Vanilla Gorilla.
Andrews Prediction: Chase Sherman via TKO
CHAS SKELLY (17-2-0) VS JASON KNIGHT (19-2-0)
Andrews: I became a believer in Jason Knight when he beat Bruce Leeroy. Skelly is a tough guy but Knight will walk away with a finish when the smoke clears.
Andrews Prediction: Jason Knight via TKO
#3 EDDIE ALVAREZ (28-5-0) VS #9 DUSTIN POIRIER (21-5-0)
Andrews: Is the real Alvarez back? Poirier took a beating but won in in his last fight, but until Alvarez proves he has put the McGregor fight behind him, I have to go with The Diamond.
Andrews Prediction: Dustin Poirier via submission
MAIN CARD (10 PM ET/ 7PM PT)
#9 KRZYSZTOF JOTKO (19-1-0) VS DAVID BRANCH (20-3-0)
Andrews: Branch is a decorated WSOF champion, but this is the UFC. The advantage lies with Jotko.
Andrews Prediction: Krzysztof Jotko via TKO
#2 FRANKIE EDGAR (20-5-1) VS #7 YAIR RODRIGUEZ (11-1-0)
Andrews: Rodriguez is an electric dynamo, but Edgar will plow through all of that and control the bout on the ground. It’s not personal, strictly business for “The Answer.”
Andrews Prediction: Frankie Edgar via unanimous decision
#3 DEMIAN MAIA (24-6-0) VS #5 JORGE MASVIDAL (32-11-0)
Andrews: Masvidal will be ultra careful, despite his promises to unleash war on Maia. This could go either way, but I have to go with Maia and that death-grip ground game.
Andrews Prediction: Demian Maia via submission
JOANNA JEDRZEJCZYK (13-0-0) VS JESSICA ANDRADE (16-5-0)
Andrews: Can Andrade plow through the Muay Thai of the champion and get the clinch and the ground game going? I f anyone can, it should be her. But despite Andrade making this JJ’s toughest defence yet, she will retain.
Andrews Prediction: Joanna Jedrzejczyk via unanimous decision
STIPE MIOCIC (16-2-0) VS #4 JUNIOR DOS SANTOS (18-4-0)
Andrews: Junior won the first one, but it was a narrow win and he took a lot of punishment. Since then, JDS has taken lots of punishment in fights, I don’t think he’s quite the same fighter as when he first won the belt from Cain Velasquez. This is an opportunity for Stipe to show his stuff.
Andrews Prediction: Stipe Miocic via TKO
