The UFC is in Mexico City this weekend and in the main event we get to see flyweights No.6 Sergio Pettis (15-2-0) and No.7 Brandon Moreno (14-3-0) contend in the high altitude for a possible spot in the top-5 of the division, currently ruled by champion Demetrious Johnson.
Unfortunately. Mexico’s Alexa Grasso missed weight and will forfeit 20 per cent of her purse to opponent Iraqi-Canadian Randa Markos in a catchweight fight of 119-pounds.
Kenai Andrews checks in with his thoughts on the main card.
ALEJANDRO PEREZ (17-6-1) VS ANDRE SOUKHAMTHATH (11-4-0)
Andrews: Soukhamthath is a tough fighter, but the experience factor goes to the TUFLA winner Perez, who should be able to get the decision with his ground game, if he doesn’t finish Andre with his striking.
Andrews Prediction: Alejandro Perez via unanimous decision
SAM ALVEY (30-9-0, 1NC) VS RASHAD EVANS (24-6-1)
Andrews: Rashad Evans is 37 years old. We haven’t seen “Suga” in some time and with consecutive losses to fighters he would have easily beaten just a few years ago, I have to go with Alvey.
Andrews Prediction: Sam Alvey via TKO
MARTIN BRAVO (12-0-0) VS HUMBERTO BANDENAY (13-4-0, 1NC)
Andrews: Both guys have only one UFC fight between them, but they like to get the finish. Bandenay has been submitted in all four of his defeats and I think Bravo will get the tap after overcoming some stiff resistance from Bandenay.
Andrews Prediction: Martin Bravo via submission
ALAN JOUBAN (15-5-0) VS NIKO PRICE (10-0-0)
Andrews: Jouban will be looking for redemption after that loss to Gunnar but can he overcome the striking of Price, who has power too? Tough call, but I am going with Price.
Andrews Prediction: Niko Price via TKO
RANDA MARKOS (7-5-0) VS ALEXA GRASSO (9-1-0)
Andrews: Grasso missing weight throws a wrench into this. Markos wants to get the fight to the ground, Grasso wants to use her boxing. We haven’t seen Grasso deal successfully with a UFC-calibre wrestler (she lost to Felice Herring in her debut), so the advantage goes to the “Quiet Storm.”
Andrews Prediction: Randa Markos via unanimous decision
#6 SERGIO PETTIS (15-2-0) VS #7 BRANDON MORENO (14-3-0)
Andrews: I like both fighters and this should be a fun fight. Pettis like to stay technical, using his striking with a decent ground game. Moreno likes to pressure his opponents. I think Moreno will score the upset here with a late tap after overcoming the standup of Pettis.
Andrews Prediction: Brandon Moreno via submission
