MMA Crossfire – UFC Fight Night 47: Bader vs St. Preux predictions
The time is now for former Ultimate Fighter winner and #8 ranked Ryan “Darth” Bader (18-4-0).
He’s been a fight or two away from a title shot in the past, but right now, he’s in danger of being on the outside looking in. Defeating the streaking #10 Ovince St. Preux (OSP) (16-5-0) at UFC Fight Night 47 is the 31-year-old wrestler’s chance to elevate his name into the top-5 mix.
OSP continues to push forward in the division, utilizing his striking, submissions and ground-and-pound to a 5-fight win streak.
Can OSP’s striking overpower Bader’s wrestling?
Gray “The Bully” Maynard’s (12-4-1, 1 NC) back is against the wall in the co-main event, having suffered back-to-back TKO finishes. He needs an impressive win over Ross Pearson (17-7-0, 1 NC) badly.
But Pearson has a mission of his own: Avenging his controversial split-decision loss to Diego Sanchez.
Who does our resident expert Cassie Wiseman have?
Welcome back to The Crossfire.
MMA Crossfire Expert Cassie Wiseman checks in with her thoughts on the main event matchups.
THIAGO TAVARES (22-5-1) VS ROBBIE “PROBLEMS” PERALTA (18-4-0, 1 NC)
Wiseman: Peralta doesn’t want to mess around on the mat and Tavares will be shoot in early to bring things into his zone. Peralta is fast with insane power for the 145-pound division. Tavares can take anyone’s limb home, but the fight starts standing and Peralta has great takedown defence.
Wiseman Prediction: Robbie Peralta via decision
SHAWN “THE SAVAGE” JORDAN (15-6-0) VS JACK “THE OUTLAW” MAY (7-1-0)
Wiseman: Here come the big boys, so don’t blink. These guys are throwing bombs, not fists, so expect this fight to end in the first five minutes. Realistically, this could be either fighters fight due to the power, but Jordan is the faster and more diverse fighter. He is able to win off his back even if rocked. May is 100% dependent on his power.
Wiseman Prediction: Shawn Jordan via TKO.
SETH “POLISH PISTOLA” BACZYNSKI (18-9-0) VS ALAN JOUBAN (9-2-0)
Wiseman: I feel bad for Jouban because Baczynski is a beast. Whether it’s striking or on the mat, Baczynski can do it all. He is the next level of MMA fighter that is on the rise in the UFC today. Jouban will need to connect quick with a perfectly placed strike to win this fight. I have this fight ending quick.
Wiseman Prediction: Seth Baczynski via submission.
#14 TIM “THE BARBARIAN” BOETSCH (17-7-0) VS BRAD TAVARES (12-3-0)
Wiseman: The power advantage goes to Boetsch, but Tavares is the more versatile striker. Boetsch throws bombs and shoots in for takedowns. Tavares is more technical and moves better when setting things up. I would also give a timing edge to Tavares. While this is going to be entertaining, due to the striking technique, I have Tavares winning.
Wiseman Prediction: Thiago Tavares via TKO.
GRAY “THE BULLY” MAYNARD (12-4-1, 1 NC) VS ROSS “THE REAL DEAL” PEARSON (17-7-0, 1 NC)
Wiseman: I love this fight! The brute strength of these fighters, the hard work, experience, this fight has it all. They are both solid fighters, but I see Pearson taking it. His placement of power, combinations, and takedown defence just puts him ahead of Maynard. Maynard still has power that can end a fight quick, but he is more predictable and slower than Pearson.
Wiseman Prediction: Ross Pearson via decision.
#8 RYAN “DARTH” BADER (18-4-0) VS #10 OVINCE ST. PREUX (16-5-0)
Wiseman: OSP has been on the rise for a while now, just messing people up. I’ve never been able to get on the Bader train and it’s hard to explain why. His striking is improving, he always shows up to fight, but really I guess it’s the lay-and-pray style fighting that kills me. OSP is a perfect match because he’ll be forced to do something different. OSP will be able to stuff a few takedowns and connect with a few powerful strikes. He doesn’t need many due to his power and accuracy, but Bader will be shooting in early when he tastes the power of OSP. The better skilled fighter is OSP, but the laying game of Bader has helped him out large lately. I’m seeing the striking of OSP land before Bader score a takedown for nappy time.
