Former UFC heavyweight champion Andrei Arlovski was once a prodigy in the heavyweight division.
But that was a long time ago.
He’s back in the UFC after a long road, but disappointed many, including UFC president Dana White with his controversial win over Brendan Schaub.
He knows he’s on thin ice and needs an impressive win over #4 Antonio “Bigfoot” Silva, a fighter who was improved vastly since their 2010 encounter.
Bigfoot beat Arlovski in 2010. Can The Pit Bull return the favour Saturday with his job likely on the line?
Will Floyd Mayweather Jr. watch them before his big fight?
Welcome back to The Crossfire.
#10 JESSICA “BATE ESTACA” ANDRADE (11-3-0) VS LARISSA PACHECO (10-0-0)
Andrews: On this paper this is pretty even matchup. Both are good on the ground and have good striking. Andrade has the experience factor. But, I’m going with the upset here. Larissa Pacheo for the TKO.
Andrews Prediction: Larissa Pacheco via TKO.
LURI “MURAJO” ALCANTARA (30-5-0, 1 NC) VS RUSSELL DOANE (14-3-0)
Andrews: I give the edge to Alcantara in another even-matched fight. He’s been in the UFC longer, fighting tough competition such as Urijah Faber. His experience in the octagon should neutralize Doane’s striking proficiency.
Andrews Prediction: Luri “Murajo” Alcantara via unanimous decision.
SANTIAGO “GENTE BOA” PONZINIBBIO (19-2-0) VS WENDELL OLIVERIA (24-7-0)
Andrews: Both of these fighters are making their UFC debuts., though Santiago did appear on TUF Brazil. Ponzinbbio like to use wrestling more, and Olivieira likes to strike and use Muay Thai. Olivieira has face better competition, so I’m going with his experience factor to TKO Olivieira before he can use the takedown.
Andrews Prediction: Wendell Oliveira via TKO.
LEONARDO SANTOS (12-4-1) VS EFRAIN “HECO EN MEXICO” ESCUDERO (19-5-0)
Andrews: Despite being TUF 8 winner, this is Escudero’s third UFC stint. His inconsistency is concerning to me, but right now he’s won four out of his last five. He does own a good win over Joe Lauzon. Santos is a TUF Brazil 2 winner with a win and a majority draw so far. I’m going with his consistency, despite the fact he takes more shots than he lands statistically.
Andrews Prediction: Leonardo Santos via TKO.
GLEISON TIBAU (38-10-0) VS PIOTR HALLMANN (15-2-0)
Andrews: Tibau is a powerful wrestler with knockout power, but his gas tank is limited. Hallman has finished all of his wins but one, and will overcome Tibau’s hometown advantage to grind out another late finish.
Andrews Prediction: Piotr Hallman via submission.
#4 ANTONIO “BIGFOOT” SILVA (18-5-0, 1 NC) VS #14 ANDREI “THE PIT BULL” ARLOVSKI (22-10-0, 1 NC)
Andrews: Silva comes in as the heavier and younger fighter with the advantage in almost every area except possibly speed, knockout power and handspeed. He has a convincing 2010 win over a younger Arlovski in Strikeforce and he’s improved since their last encounter. Finally, he has the hometown advantage.
Arlovski won controversially against Brendan Schaub and will need to perform like the Pit Bull of old. His job is likely on the line Saturday. I have to go with Bigfoot here.
Andrews Prediction:Antonio “Bigfoot” Silvia via TKO.
