After The Crossfire – Mayweather vs Maidana II

Floyd Mayweather Jr. improved his record to 47-0-0 with 26 KOs with a unanimous decision win over Argentinian Marcos Maidana. Mayweather said afterwards to Jim Gray that his left hand was numb after the eighth round because of a bite from Maidana.

Madiana surprised many fans by not starting the fight off aggressively like in the first round.  This played to Mayweather’s advantage, as he was fresh in the later rounds.

Round One: Mayweather used his footwork and Maidana was cautious as well. Not a lot happened, but Floyd snapped a few jabs. I barely give it to Mayweather.

Round Two: Mayweather landed some nice counterpunches when he was pressured by Maidana in the corner. The adjustments clearly at play. Maidana is going to need to adjust.

Round Three: Mayweather making sure to clinch as soon as he touches the ropes to prevent Maidana form landing combos to the body. Maidana lands a nice shot at the bell.

Round Four: Madiana’s best round, but Floyd back in the last half. Madiana landed a lot to the body. Floyd avoided a few and countered.  Tough round to call, I’d give it to the Argentinian.

Round Five: Madiana did not pressure Mayweather as much, giving him the advantage. Maidana’s corner tells him to use the jab and attack.

Round Six: An uneventful round. Mayweather initiating a lot of clinching in this round.

Round Seven: Another Mayweather round.

Round Eight: Another Mayweather round but near the middle,, he claims Maidana bit his hand. Referee cautions both corners. After a bit of a kerfluffle, the fight continues. The commentators speculate Floyd is putting his gloves on Maidana’s face to prevent him form getting oxygen, which could account for the alleged bite.

Round Nine: Mayweather continuing to hold and trying to frustrate Maidana. Maidana is still swinging, but not landing. Mayweather still countering effectively. Story of the fight so far, plus the holding.

Round Ten: Mayweather is pushed down. Maidana is deducted a point for not staying in his corner, but Floyd continues to hold when he initiates. Maidana now trying to land to the body, but it’s probably too late for that.

Round Eleven: Mayweather lands some nice shots, but also a low blow. Maidana tried to set up the overhand right by going to the body first, but Floyd slips it. Another Mayweather round.

Round Twelve: Mayweather mostly dances around and avoids Maidana’s shots. He knows the fight is won. It appears Maidana was unable to hurt Mayweather early.
