MMA Crossfire – Invicta FC X: Waterson vs Tiburcio predictions
Invicta FC atomweight champion Michelle Waterson comes into Invicta FC X as the overwhelming favourite to defend her crown tonight against Brazilian challenger Herica Tiburcio.
She’s looked so dominant in her last two fights that it seems the only one that can beat her is herself.
Can the challenger Tiburcio enforce her dangerous ground game on the champion?
Welcome back to The Crossfire.
RACHAEL OSTOVICH (1-1-0) VS EVVA JOHNSON (1-0-0)
Andrews: Both fighters are making their Invicta debuts. Johnson has a ton of amateur submission finishes, while Ostrich has a professional submission win. Johnson has the height and reach advantage but I think the Hawaiian Ostrich will counter with aggressiveness to eke out a less than exciting split-decision.
Andrews Prediction: Rachael Ostovich via split-decision
JINH YU FREY (2-1-0) VS CASSIE ROBB (0-2-0)
Andrews: I still remember Frey losing to Jodie Esquibel at Invicta FC 8, a fight she should have won. She should have the motivation to make a statement tonight. She’ll weather the early storm of Robb and force the ref to stop this one.
Andrews Prediction: Jinh Yu Frey via TKO.
ALEXA GRASSO (4-0-0) VS ALIDA GRAY (4-1-0)
Andrews: Which Alexa Grasso is going to show up tonight? If she performs like the one at Invicta FC 8, Gray could steal the fight. If she comes in more aggressive and takes command of the bout from the beginning, it should be unanimous decision win. This is fight is Grasso’s to win – or lose. The 37-year old Gray will take advantage should Grasso be gracious enough to underperform.
Andrews Prediction: Alexa Grasso via unanimous decision
PEGGY MORGAN (2-2-0) VS ANDRIA WAWRO (3-1-0)
Andrews: Peggy Morgan is like the Stefan Struve of Invicta FC. So much potential with her height and reach, yet she cannot figure out how to use it to her advantage in fights. She was picked apart in her last two fights and I see nothing changing here, despite facing an Invicta rookie tonight. One hopes Peggy puts it together, but I have to go with Andria Wawro, who will follow the formula of Morgan’s last two opponents.
Andrews Prediction: Andria Wawro via TKO
IRENA ALDANA (4-1-0) VS MARION RENEAU (4-1-0)
NOTE: BOUT RESCHEDULED FOR 2015
CHARMAINE TWEET (6-4-0) VS FAITH VAN DUIN (4-1-0)
NOTE: BOUT CANCELLED
JENNIFER MAIA (9-3-1) VS DEANNA BENNETT (5-0-0)
Andrews: Maia is returning to Invicta for the third time so she has the experience advantage, but Bennett has fought some good competition. She has a win over current #11 UFC bantamweight Juliana Pena. Maia is a game fighter with a decent ground game, but Bennet is an up-and-comer who will overcome the rough waters to win.
Andrews Prediction: Deanna Bennett via unanimous decision
ANDREA LEE (2-0-0) VS ROXANNE MODAFFERI (16-11-0)
Andrews: Roxanne is the cagey veteran, with Obi-Wan Kenobi-like experience. She has a solid standup game and ground game too. Lee replaces Vanessa Porto, on short notice. I like Lee, and even have a vibe that she will perform surprisingly well. But the brain says another Modafferi decision.
Andrews Prediction: Roxanne Modafferi decision.
TONYA EVINGER VS CINDY DANDOIS
Andrews: Evinger had a good performance at Invicta FC 8 and I think she has enough to outlast the impressive Belgium Dandois. This should be a good battle, but when the smoke clears, Evinger should be standing.
Andrews Prediction: Tonya Evinger via unanimous decision
“THE KARATE HOTTIE” MICHELLE WATERSON (12-3-0) VS HERICA TIBURCIO (8-2-0)
Andrews: Waterson has more tools to win here. She can finish on the ground or on the feet. Tiburcio needs to get the fight to the ground to win, but we haven’t seen anyone yet who can make Waterson work on the ground. The question is: Can Waterson finish Tiburcio or will she play it safe? I think she will play it safe and get the decision win.
