UFC FIGHT PASS PRELIMS
ANGELA HILL VS EMILY KAGAN
ANDREWS PREDICTION: EMILY KAGAN VIA UNANIMOUS DECISION
WINNER: ANGELA HILL VIA UNANIMOUS DECISION (30-26, 30-26, 30-27)
Andrews: To my surprise, Angela kept the fight on the feet and used her striking to great effect. Kagan, unlike Carla Esparza, could not get the fight to the ground. Great win for Angela Hill.
AISLING VS ALEX CHAMBERS
ANDREWS PREDICTION: AISLING DALY VIA TKO
WINNER: AISLING DALY VIA FIRST ROUND ARMBAR SUBMISSION
Andrews: A valiant performance by Chambers, who got the fight to the ground, but Daly was simply better. Nice work by Daly to get the late tap.
Andrews Prediction: Aisling “Ais the Bash” Daly via TKO.
SPORTSNET 360 PRELIMS
TECIA “THE TINY TORNADO” TORRES VS ANGELA “YOUR MAGESTY” MAGANA
ANDREWS PREDICTION: TECIA TORRES VIA TKO
WINNER: TECIA TORRES VIA UNANIMOUS DECISION
Andrews: Another textbook performance by Torres. Quick footwork, quick strikes, and timely takedowns. Magana showed her toughness by taking everything Torres dished out and trying to fight back, but just a great win for Tecia.
JOANNE “BADMOFO JOJO” CALDERWOOD VS SEOHEE HAM
Andrews: Another great performance by JoJo, but how about Seohee Ham? She should have been in the house. She bloodied Calderwood’s nose and fought a competitive bout. Somebody buy both of these ladies a beer.
BEC RAWLINGS VS HEATHER JO CLARK
WINNER: HEATHER JO CLARK VIA UNANIMOUS DECISION
ANDREWS PREDICTION: HEATHER JO CLARK VIA UNANIMOUS DECISION
Andrews: Rawlings waited too long to let her hands go. She had a spirited third round, but Clark was on the money in the first two. She used her grappling and ground game to control the rounds, and then hung on for a gassed third. Good win for Clark.
FELICE HERRIG VS LISA ELLIS
ANDREWS PREDICTION: FELICE HERRIG VIA UNANIMOUS DECISION
WINNER: FELICE HERRIG VIA SECOND ROUND ARMBAR SUBMISSION
Andrews: Spunky Lisa Ellis put up a fight, but the bout basically consisted of Ellis surprising Herrig with a Guillotine and then Herrig trying to submit her on the ground, maybe to Ellis’ surprise. She finally locked in the armbar and it all she wrote for Ellis. Good win.
SPORTSNET 360 MAIN CARD
JESSICA PENNE VS RANDA MARKOS
ANDREWS PREDICTION: RANDA MARKOS VIA TKO
WINNER: JESSICA PENNE VIA SPLIT-DECISION (28-29, 30-27, 29-28)
Andrews: Great performances by both fighters. Penne was savvy enough take the fight to the ground when Markos started outstriking her, which was often. On the ground, she controlled enough of the fight. Markos did well to once again show everyone she is no pushover. Plus, she got a $25,000 USD bonus for her Episode 9 submission win over Felice Herrig.
JOE PROCTOR VS YANCY MEDEIROS
ANDREWS PREDICTION: YANCY MEDEIROS VIA TKO
WINNER: YANCY MEDEIROS VIA FIRST ROUND GUILLOTINE SUBMISSION
Andrews: What a professional performance by Medeiros. He hurt Proctor late in the first, then calmly let Proctor’s movements lead him into the guillotine finish. Excellent.
KJ NOONS VS DARON CRUICKSHANK
ANDREWS PREDICTION: DARON CRUICKSHANK VIA TKO
Andrews: Thank goodness for Big John McCarthy. On the heels of Urijah Faber’s eyepoke-assisted win over Francisco Rivera, Noons accidentally eyepoked Cruickshank with Daron winning the fight at the time. Despite not seeing it, McCarthy stopped the bout in the second round and had the fighter assessed. A rematch will probably be made.
#10 JEREMY STEVENS VS #14 CHARLES OLIVEIRA
ANDREWS PREDICTION: CHARLES OLIVERIA VIA SUBMISSION
WINNER: CHARLES OLIVEIRA VIA UNANIMOUS DECISION (30-27, 29-28, 29-28)
Andrews: Oliveria has indeed grown from that Frankie Edgar fight. Stephens deserves some kind of award for getting out of submission attempts of Oliveira. But the fight was the Charles Oliveira show. Excellent performance on the feet and the ground for the Brazilian.
#1 CARLA ESPARZA) VS ROSE NAMAJUNAS
ANDREWS PREDICTION: ROSE NAMAJUNAS VIA TKO
WINNER: CARLA ESPARZA VIA SECOND-ROUND REAR NAKED CHOKE
Andrews: This fight reminded me of the TJ Dillashaw – Renan Barao fight. Just an overwhelming dominant second round by Esparza. She dragged Namajunas kicking and screaming into a war on the ground. The future is bright for Namajunas and the future is now for Esparza – the UFC’s first strawweight champion.
