After The Crossfire – UFC 183: Silva vs Diaz

Former middleweight champion Anderson Silva made a victorious return to the octagon at UFC 183 with a unanimous decision win over Nick Diaz.

Any questions about Silva’s left broken leg were put to bed by the second round, as he threw them just as before, while taking a few on them from Diaz.

It was a good performance, but for the first time in a long time, we did not see a finish. But, we did see some bizarre moments in the cage.

Welcome back to The Crossfire.

ANDREWS PREDICTION: ANDY ENZ VIA UNANIMOUS DECISION

WINNER: THIAGO SANTOS VIA TKO

Andrews: A good performance by Santos, who caught Enz with a nice liver shot, saw he was hurt, then swarmed for the TKO finish.

WISEMAN PREDICTION: RAFAEL NATAL VIA UNANIMOUS DECISION

WINNER: RAFAEL NATAL VIA UNANIMOUS DECISION (30-27, 30-27, 30-26)

Andrews: Natal’s ground game and strikes were too much for Watson. It was that simple.

#3 IAN “UNCLE CREEPY” MCCALL VS #6 JOHN “HANDS OF STONE” LINEKER

UFC 183

John Lineker punches Ian McCall in their flyweight bout during the UFC 183 event at the MGM Grand Garden Arena on January 31, 2015 in Las Vegas, Nevada. (Photo by Jeff Bottari/Zuffa LLC/Zuffa LLC via Getty Images)

WISEMAN PREDICTION: IAN MCCALL VIA UNANIMOUS DECISION

WINNER: JOHN LINEKER VIA UNANIMOUS DECISION

Andrews: What a performance by John Lineker. After getting out performed in the first round, he started landing shots that took some steam out of McCall. Then almost submitted him with the guillotine.  But the problem is he can’t make 125.

ED “SHORT FUSE” HERMAN VS DEREK BRUNSON

UFC 183

WISEMAN PREDICTION: ED HERMAN VIA UNANIMOUS DECISION

#2 MIESHA TATE VS #3 SARA MCMANN

UFC 183

Miesha Tate punches Sara McMann. (Photo by Jeff Bottari/Zuffa LLC/Zuffa LLC via Getty Images)

WISEMAN PREDICTION: SARA MCMANN VIA UNANIMOUS DECISION

WINNER: MIESHA TATE VIA MAJORITY DECISION. (29-28, 29-27, 28-28)

Andrews: This is why Tate is a fan favourite. She overcame the adversity of the first round where she was buckled by a McMann right, and then used her smarts, guillotine choke and grappling in the remaining rounds. McMann needs to work off her back more; she had no answers once she was forced to work off it.

MAIN CARD

#13 JORDAN “YOUNG GUN” MEIN VS THIAGO “PITBULL” ALVES

UFC 183

Thiago Alves (top) punches Jordan Mein. (Photo by Josh Hedges/Zuffa LLC/Zuffa LLC via Getty Images)

WISEMAN PREDICTION: JORDAN MEIN VIA UNANIMOUS DECISION

WINNER: THIAGO ALVES VIA TKO.

Andrews: What a comeback by Alves. He caught Meins with a kick to the stomach after getting knocked around and secured the stoppage. It just goes to show you how anything can happen in the MMA game.

THALES LEITES VS TIM BOETSCH

UFC 183

WISEMAN PREDICTION THALES LEITES VIA SUBMISSION

WINNER: THALES LEITES VIA SUBMISSION

Andrews: Great performances by both fighters, but Leites made better adjustments and secured the D’arce choke. After a string of boring decision wins, Leites is finishing guys left and right, Full marks to him.

JOE LAUZON VS AL “RAGING” IAQUINTA

UFC 183

Al Iaquinta (top) punches Joe Lauzon in their lightweight bout. (Photo by Jeff Bottari/Zuffa LLC/Zuffa LLC via Getty Images)

WISEMAN PREDICTION: JOE LAUZON VIA SUBMISSION

WINNER: AL IAQUINTA VIA TKO

Andrews: An excellent performance by Iaquinta who caught Lauzon and in a surreal sequence, methodically picked him apart until the referee was forced to stop the bout. I agree with Rogan: Joe Lauzon is too tough for his own good.

TYRON WOODLEY VS KELVIN GASTELUM

UFC 183

Tyron Woodley punches Kelvin Gastelum in their welterweight bout during the UFC 183 event at the MGM Grand Garden Arena on January 31, 2015 in Las Vegas, Nevada. (Photo by Jeff Bottari/Zuffa LLC/Zuffa LLC via Getty Images)

Wiseman: Talk about tough matches. Woodley is that guy whose been been doing nothing but finishing people. His knockout power is formidable, but we learned something about him in the Rory MacDonald fight. When moving backwards and against the cage, he isn’t as effective. Woodley moving forward is a dangerous guy, but like Rory, Gastelum will push forward. The kicks and striking from strange angles will really help Gastelum take control of this fight and when Woodley loses control of a fight, he doesn’t get it back very well. I have Gastelum using his striking to put pressure on Woodley, shooting for a takedowns, tiring out Woodley to the fullest, then driving for a submission.

Wiseman Prediction: Kelvin Gastelum via submission.

MAIN EVENT

ANDERSON “THE SPIDER” SILVA VS NICK DIAZ

UFC 183

Anderson Silva kicks Nick Diaz. (Photo by Jeff Bottari/Zuffa LLC/Zuffa LLC via Getty Images)

WISEMAN PREDICTION: ANDERSON SILVA VIA TKO

WINNER: ANDERSON SILVA VIA UNANIMOUS DECISION (49-46, 50-45, 50-45)

Andrews: We saw a focused Silva tonight, which shouldn’t have been shocking, yet it was. Silva looked for openings and refused to play into the trash talk and hijinks of Diaz. Diaz he said he thought he won every round afterwards, which was bizarre. I thought Anderson was not trying to knock Diaz out, but work on his game. He didn’t fight a top-level opponent, but it was a good performance – particularly mentally – considering the return from a broken leg.

Wiseman Prediction: Anderson “The Spider” Silva via KO.
