MMA Crossfire – UFC Fight Night Berlin: Jedrzejczyk vs Penne predictions
UFC Berlin marks strawweight champion Joanna Jedrzejczyk’s first title defence.
All of the fighters made weight, but once again, she made things memorable with another vintage in-your-face staredown of challenger Jessica Penne.
Will it work?
Welcome back to The Crossfire.
MMA Crossfire Expert Kenai Andrews checks in with his thoughts on the main card matchups.
NICK “SERGEANT” HEINZ (11-2-0, 1NC) VS LUKASZ “WOOKIEE” SAJEWSKI (13-0-0)
Andrews: Heinz has judo and will welcome Sajewski to the UFC. Heinz will be want to be careful going the ground, as Sajewski has a rash of armbar submissions. I’m rolling with the relative experience advantage of Heinz will help see him through.
Andrews Prediction: Nick “Sergeant” Heinz via unanimous decision.
PETER SOBOTTA (14-4-1) VS STEVEN “THE STEAMROLLA” KENNEDY (22-6-0)
Andrews: Sobotta is the hometown hero and this is his second run with the company. He has a bone-collecting amount of submission wins, but Kennedy has a similiar array of choke finishes. Tough pick here, but Kennedy is making his debut. The experience factor tips the scales slightly in Sobotta’s favour.
Andrews Prediction: Peter Sobotta via submission.
#12 DENNIS SIVER (22-10-0,1NC) VS #15 TATSUYA “THE CRUSHER” KAWAJIRI (33-8-2)
Andrews: Kawajiri likes to take his opponent to the ground and work for a submission. Siver is a tank who likes to punish guys with a well-placed strike. Siver looked ordinary against a fast Conor McGregor and while he should be able to land some shots here, I think he will have trouble catching Kawajiri. Tatsuya knows he needs to deplete the Russian’s gas tank and will do just enough on the feet and ground to escape with a split-decision.
Andrews Prediction: Tatsuya “The Crusher” Kawajiri via split-decision.
JOANNA JEDRZEJCZYK (9-0-0) VS JESSICA PENNE (12-3-0)
Andrews: An interesting matchup. Penne has shown in the past she can deal with good strikers (Randa Markos), but Joanna is elite. If Jessica can drag her to the ground and make her work, that would be her best shot to win. But the fight starts on the feet. That means advantage Joanna. I see Joanna using her striking skills to neutralize the dangerous ground game of Penne.
Andrews Prediction: Joanna Jedrezejczyk via TKO.
