MMA Crossfire – Invicta FC 13: Cyborg vs Van Duin predictions
This could be Justino’s last featherweight fight for some time, as she pursues Ronda Rousey and the UFC women’s bantamweight crown.
Welcome back to The Crossfire.
MMA Crossfire Expert Kenai Andrews checks in with his picks:
MARINA “THE SUPERNOVA FROM MOLDOVA” SHAFIR (1-1-0) VS AMBER LEIBROCK (0-0-0)
Andrews: Leibrock comes in with a single amateur fight on her resume, but has the height and reach advantage. Shafir has a submission win and KO loss. Leibrock looks impressive physically, but I have to go with the experience advantage of Shafir to grind out a submission.
Andrews Prediction: MARINA SHAFIR VIA SUBMISSION
AMY “THE RESURRECTION” CADWELL MONTENEGRO (6-1-0) VS JAMIE MOYLE (2-0-0)
Andrews: Montenegro is coming off a decision win over Brianna Van Buren at Invicta FC 11, but so is Moyle. Coyle gives up 3 inches in height and the experience factor. My heart says Moyle, but my brain says Montenegro.
Andrews Prediction: AMY “THE RESURRECTION” CADWELL MONENEGRO VIA UNANIMOUS DECISION.
AMBER “THE BULLY” BROWN (4-1-0) VS “THE ALPHA FEMALE” CATHERINE COSTIGAN (5-0-0)
Andrews: Brown eked out a debut split-decision win over Liz McCathy at Invicta FC 11. Costigan is making her debut and comes in with 4 taps in her 5 wins. On paper, Bell has the experience advantage, but I’m going with the upset with Costigan getting another tap after taking the fight to the ground.
Andrews Prediction: “THE ALPHA FEMALE” CATHERINE COSTIGAN VIA SUBMISSION
PANNIE “BANZAI” KIANZAD (7-0-0) VS JESSICA-ROSE CLARK (5-1-0)
Andrews: Banzai is making her debut and will be aiming to make Sweden proud, but the 23-year-old has only three finishes in her seven wins. I like the spunk of Clark, but Kianzad’stechnical skills should prove to be too much.
Andrews Prediction: PANNIE “BANZAI” KIANZAD VIA UNANIMOUS DECISION
ATOMWEIGHT TITLE MATCH
HERICA TIBURCIO (9-2-0) VS AYAKA HAMASAKI (11-1-0)
Andrews: The 33-year-old Yamasaki comes in with a good overall record but is 1-1-0 in Invicta. She will have the height advantage, but it really doesn’t matter with Tiburcio. She knows how to suck you in the feet and set up her takedowns. Then she saps the gas out of your tank and cranks out a submission. Hamasaki has been around, so she can delay the result with some good striking, but I think we will see the title successfully defended tonight.
Andrews Prediction: HERICA TIBURCIO VIA SUBMISSION
BANTAMWEIGHT TITLE MATCH
TONYA “TRIPLE THREAT” EVINGER (15-5-0) VS IRENE ALDANA (5-1-0)
Andrews: This fight is a dandy. The junkyard-dog tough Evinger vs the boxing sniping and underrated ground game of the Mexican Aldana. If I was the Aldana’s trainer I would simply say Donald Trump to her after each round. At any rate, I think Aldana’s lack of relative experience will be mitigated by her deadly strikes. She will be tested, but Mexico will be celebrating tonight.
Andrews Prediction: IRENE ALDANA VIA TKO.
FEATHERWEIGHT TITLE MATCH
CRISTIANE “CYBORG” JUSTINO (13-1-1, 1NC) VS FAITH VAN DUIN (5-1-0)
Andrews: Justino is running out ofopponents at featherweight, but Van Duin has the New Zealand guts to try and stake her claim to the upset of the decade. She’s coming off a come-from-behind win in her last fight and if she can give Cyborg something to think about on the feet, and test her gas tank, maybe she can work something out. Unfortunately, Cyborg is a beast. Easy to say, but difficult to do. I have to go with Cyborg, who is focused on destroying Ronda Rousey.
Andrews Prediction: CRISTIANE “CYBORG” VIA TKO.
