MMA Crossfire – UFC Fight Night 71: Mir vs Duffee predictions

Frank Mir’s push back to the UFC heavyweight title shot conversation continues tonight at UFC Fight Night 71 in San Diego.

The former two-time champ is trying to come back from injury and a recent 4-fight losing streak. He has a win over Bigfoot Silva, and needs a good win over knockout artist Todd Duffee to continue the momentum.

Duffee has some aspirations of his own, and after a disappointing first run, is looking to make his second run more profilic.

TSN MAIN CARD (10PM ET/7PM PT)

ALAN “BRAHMA” JOUBAN (11-3-0) VS MATT DWYER (8-2-0)

Andrews: Dwyer is 1-1 in the UFC and although he has the height and reach advantages, I’m going with the more experienced Jouban. His only loss (2-1) in the UFC was a controversial one and at this point, is simply better and more active. Just don’t get caught, as Dwyer has a 100% knockout percentage.

Andrews Prediction: Alan “Brahma” Jouban via TKO.

KEVIN “THE MOTOWN PHENOMENON” LEE (10-1-0) VS JAMES “MOON WALKER” MOONTASRI (8-2-0)

Andrews: Lee is on a three-fight winning streak but is still searching for his first finish. Moonstari has faced good competition and is coming of a finish of Cody Pfister. It’s pretty tight but I think the finishing ability of Moonstari will overcome Lee’s ground game.

Andrews Prediction: James Moonstari via submission.

SCOTT “YOUNG GUNS” JORGENSEN (15-10-0) VS MANNY “THE ANVIL” GAMBURYAN (17-9-0, 1NC)

Andrews: Jorgensen is a solid fighter coming off a loss to Wilson Reis at UFC 179. The question is can he take the starch out of Gamburyan? If he can, then his chances for a decision are good. But Manny has shown he can go the distance, and he is the more powerful grappler here. I’m going with The Anvil.

Andrews Prediction: Manny “The Anvil” Gamburyan via unanimous decision.

#10 HOLLY “THE PREACHER’S DAUGHTER” HOLM (8-0-0) VS #11 MARION “BELIZEAN BRUISER” RENEAU (6-1-0)

Andrews: Holm has recovered from her neck injury and looks to showcase her improved skills, but she faces a tough customer in Reneau. She’s older, but all she does is win and with finishes too. I really like Reneau, but am going with Holm to show her improved MMA skills.

Andrews Prediction: Holly Holm via unanimous decision.

“THE PUNK” JOSH THOMPSON (20-7-0, 1NC) VS TONY “EL CUCUY” FERGUSON (19-3-0)

Andrews: Tony Ferguson is on fire. The man is hellbent on showing he is the man after being injured for so long. Meanwhile, Thomson is not the same fighter he was before he challenged Benson Henderson for the title. He will want to re-evaluate retirement after this bout.

Andrews Prediction: Tony Ferguson via TKO.

MAIN EVENT

#10 FRANK MIR (17-9-0) VS TODD DUFFEE (9-2-0)

Andrews: Mir is dangerous everywhere and seems to have the fire back. He knocked out Bigfoot impressively, but Todd Duffee has the knockout aura of Shane Carwin. One touch and you’re out and Mir’s chin is still questionable. So while on paper, Mir should win, I think one crack from Duffee will flip the script.

Andrews Prediction: Todd Duffee via TKO.
