Renan Barao finally gets his chance to win back the UFC bantamweight crown from the man he lost it to – TJ Dillashaw at UFC on FOX 16.
They both made weight comfortably yesterday. So there will be no excuses tonight.
Welcome back to The Crossfire.
MMA Crossfire Expert Kenai Andrews shares his thoughts on the main card:
CTV TWO MAIN CARD (8PM ET/5PM PT)
JOE LAUZON (24-11-0) VS “THE FIREBALL KID” TAKANORI GOMI (35-10-0, 1NC)
Andrews: Gomi is in the twilight of his career. He still game and packs a punch, but Lauzon in addition to striking has wrestling, plus a good chin to withstand Gomi’s power. J-Lo should be able to put away The Fireball Kid.
Andrews Prediction: Joe Lauzon via TKO.
#7 EDSON “JUNIOR” BARBOZA (15-3-0) VS PAUL “THE IRISH DRAGON” FELDER (10-0-0)
Andrews: Felder is coming off an impressive finish of Danny Castillo, but Barboza is a more difficult challenge. Michael Johnson pressured him, but Kelder is a Muay Thai striker. That means Barboza should be able to work his game. Junior overcomes The Dragon.
Andrews Prediction: Edson “Junior” Barboza via split-decision.
#2 MIESHA “CUPCAKE” TATE (16-5-0) VS JESSICA “EVIL” EYE (11-2-0, 1 NC)
Andrews: Should be a great fight. Can Eye dominate a fighter of Miesha’s calibre? She will have to prove it. Tate is the title shot gatekeeper of the division and only Cat Zingano has been able to get past her. Tate showed in her last fights she can outsmart you just as well. I have to go with Tate here.
Andrews Prediction: Miesha “Cupcake” Tate via unanimous decision.
BANTAMWEIGHT TITLE MATCH MAIN EVENT
TJ DILLASHAW (C) (12-2-0) VS RENAN “THE BARON” BARAO (35-2-0, 1NC)
Andrews: Styles make fights and Dillashaw is one of the few fighters that Barao cannot handle. In the first fight, he easily countered Barao’s best strikes en route to a stunning finish. Barao will try to adjust, but TJ has more skills, plus the gas tank to dictate this rematch. Barao should be more competitive, but TJ will leave the champ.
Andrews Prediction: TJ Dillashaw via unanimous decision.
