Benavidez vs Makovsky set for UFC 196

In another battle of flyweights at UFC 196, #1-ranked Joseph Benavidez (23-4-0) will fight #8-ranked Zach Makovsky (19-6-0) in a contenders bout.

An impressive win by Makovsky – who lost his last bout to John Dodson at UFC 187 – could leapfrog him in the rankings.

Benavidez, despite losing twice to champion Demetrious Johnson, is  the only fighter in the division to really test Johnson. He has a 4-fight win streak going including three comfortable unanimous decisions.

The main event features heavyweight champion Fabricio Werdum defending against former champ Cain Velasquez in a rematch.

Tickets go on sale January 8th for the February 6th show at the MGM Grand Garden Arena.
