The NSAC today in  a quick admission to the Nick Diaz campaign, reduced his five year suspension  to 18 months for testing positive for marijuana metabolites in a UFC 183 drug test.

Diaz must also pay a $100,000 USD fine. The suspension is retroactive from the UFC 183 fight with Anderson Silva, who also tested positive for steroids and was suspended for one year and given a $380,000 USD fine.

Diaz can fight effective August 1st of this year.

The caving in of the NSAC can be primarily attributed to the support of the MMA community, which rallied behind him once his original suspension of 5 years and a $165,000 USD fine was handed down. The fever pitch was an online White house petition that garnered over 100,000 signatures and endorsements by stars such as Ronda Rousey and Cher.
