Invicta FC 15: Cyborg plows through Ibragimova to defend featherweight crown

Cristiane “Cyborg” Justino stopped Russian challenger Daria Ibragimova late in the first round despite being limited to fighting on one leg at Invicta FC 15.

Ibragimova grabbed Justino’s leg and refused to let it go, eating several strikes by the champion. Once she did let it go, Justino went  to work and landed a power shot that sent Ibragimova crashing to the canvas. Additional strikes forced referee John McCarthy to call the bout.

EDITOR’S NOTE: Gomes had complications making weight for the fight, and thus her fight with Amanda Bell has been cancelled.

MEGAN ANDERSON  VS AMBER LEIBROCK

WINNER: MEGAN ANDERSON VIA TKO R3 2:33

WISEMAN PREDICTION: MEGAN ANDERSON VIA SPLIT-DECISION

Wiseman: Anderson used her experience, mixed up her Muay Thai with her grappling to get a late third round TKO. Amber was game, but outclassed with the grappling. Great show of heart from both.

LACEY SCHUCKAMAN VS MIZUKI INOUE

WINNER: MIZUKI INOUE VIA SUBMISSION R3 3:41

WISEMAN PREDICTION: LACEY SHUCKMAN VIA SUBMISSION

Wiseman: These ladies showed right from the beginning just how well rounded they are. From striking to grappling, to transitions on the mat. A very high-paced, entertaining fight. However, it was the ground game of Inoue that won. Always threatening with submissions and ground and pound, she scored a submission win in the third round. Certainly the best, most aggressive Mizuki we’ve seen.

RAQUEL PA’ALUHI VS COLLEEN SCHNEIDER

EDITOR’S NOTE: Schneider weighed in at 136.4 pounds on her initial attempt. She was fined 25% of her purse for missing weight.

WINNER: COLLEEN SCHNEIDER VIA SPLIT-DECISION  (29-28, 28-29, 29-28)

WISEMAN PREDICTION: COLLEEN SCHNEDIER VIA SUBMISSION

Wiseman: While Raquel is the superior striker, tonight Schneider was on her A-game. Unpredictable, mixing levels, using her movement to do damage from a distance. Great show and a much deserved win by Schneider.

ANGELA HILL VS ALIDA GRAY

WINNER: ANGELA HILL VIA TKO R1 1:39

WISEMAN PREDICTION: ALIDA GRAY VIA SUBMISSION

Wiseman: Hill wanted to make a statement here in the Invicta. From the second the bell rang, Hill was throwing strikes and powerful kicks. She connected with a knee that hurt Gray and it was a pounding after that. All Hill all night. Great performance to start off her career here in 2016.

AMBER BROWN VS SHINO VANHOOSE

WINNER: AMBER BROWN VIA SUBMISSION R1 2:36

WISEMAN PREDICTION: AMBER BROWN VIA SUBMISSION

Wiseman: I knew the ground game of Brown would be too much for Vanhoose. Brown came in with an aggressive style, forced Vanhoose to be offensive. From there, Brown constantly tried to wedge her arms around the neck of Vanhoose until she got the tap.

(C) LIVIA RENATA SOUZA VS DEANNA BENNETT

Invicta FC 15

WINNER: LIVIA RENATA SOUZA VIA TKO R1 1:30

WISEMAN PREDICTION: LIVIA RENATA SOUZA VIA SUBMISSION

Wiseman: Well was anyone surprised by this outcome? Her power is too much even from one leg. Daria tried to get submission on her side, but while struggling to get the takedown Cyborg was able to rearrange her face while keeping her balance on one leg. Crazy! Just too much for anyone in the weight class right now. Is there anyone out there?

WISEMAN PREDICTION: CRISTIANE JUSTINO VIA TKO

Wiseman: Well was anyone surprised by this outcome? Her power is too much even from one leg.
