UFC Fight Night 83 – Cerrone vs Oliveira predictions

Donald Cerrone (28-7-0, 1NC) never cared about storylines. Moving up to welterweight at UFC Fight Night 83 against another Cowboy in Alex Oliveira (13-2-1, 1NC), why should he start now?

Meanwhile, Oliveira is looking to prolong Cerrone’s misery with a big win and leapfrog into the rankings. Two tough guys looking for a fight.

TSN 2 MAIN CARD 9PM ET/6PM PT

JAMES KRAUSE (22-7-0) VS SHANE CAMPBELL (12-3-0)

UFC Pittsburgh

James Krause of the United States and Shane Campbell of Canada face off during the UFC Fight Night weigh-in at Stage AE on February 20, 2016 in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. (Photo by Jeff Bottari/Zuffa LLC/Zuffa LLC via Getty Images)

Andrews: Campbell, who is Canadian, worked his way up from the MFC and Score Fighting Series to get to the UFC. He has his hands full with Krause, who submitted Daron Cruickshank in his last fight. Campbell primarily relies on his Muay Thai, but Krause has striking and a submission game he likes to use at his opportunity or when his opponent is weakened. I have to go with Krause.

Andrews Prediction: James Krause via submission

CHRIS CAMOZZI (22-10-0) VS JOE RIGGS (41-16-0)

UFC Pittsburgh

Andrews: Camozzi has faced top competition like Ronaldo Souza, which might help him here against the power of Riggs. He needs to to score points without getting his block knocked off, or taken to the ground. Can he do it?  He can, but I think Riggs will take him down and ground-and-pound him before he can score enough points.

Andrews Prediction: Joe Riggs via TKO

#8 DENNIS BERMUDEZ (15-5-0) VS #12 TATSUYA KAWAJIRI (35-8-2)

UFC Pittsburgh

Dennis Bermudez of the United States and Tatsuya Kawajiri of Japan face off during the UFC Fight Night weigh-in at Stage AE on February 20, 2016 in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. (Photo by Jeff Bottari/Zuffa LLC/Zuffa LLC via Getty Images)

Andrews: I think this fight depends on the wrestling and control of Kawajiri. If he can use the wrestling to wear down Bermudez, he will get the decision. Bermudez has beaten grinders like Clay Guida before, so I would’t be surprised if he wins, but I think Kawajiri’s grappling will make the difference.

Andrews Prediction: Tatsuya Kawajiri via unanimous decision

CODY GARBRANDT (7-0-0) VS AUGUSTO MENDES (5-0-0)

UFC Pittsburgh

Andrews: Garbrandt is the heavy favourite against Mendes, who is coming in on short notice and making his debut. Mendes needs to take this to the ground, but Garbrandt wind won’t let that happen unless its on his own terms. Have to to go with No Love here.

Andrews Prediction: Cody Garbrandt via TKO

#13 DEREK BRUNSON (14-3-0) VS #15 ROAN CARNEIRO (20-3-0)

UFC Pittsburgh

Derek Brunson of the United States faces off against Roan Carneiro of Brazil during the UFC Fight Night weigh-in at Stage AE on February 20, 2016 in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. (Photo by Jeff Bottari/Zuffa LLC/Zuffa LLC via Getty Images)

Andrews: A tough one to call. Both fighters good on the feet, though I give Brunson the edge there. Carneiro better on the ground, but Brunson can hold his own. Brunson is more active, and will be smart enough to keep the fight standing and avoid  the takedowns and ground game of Carneiro.

Andrews Prediction: Derek Brunson via unanimous decision

MAIN EVENT

DONALD CERRONE (27-8-0, 1NC) VS ALEX OLIVEIRA (13-2-1, 1NC)

UFC Pittsburgh

Andrews: I expect Donald Cerrone to pick apart Alex Oliveira, who has shown previously on short notice he’s every bit as tough as Cerrone, but not quite as skilled.

Andrews Prediction: Donald Cerrone via TKO
