UFC Fight Night 84: Bisping scores upset unanimous decision win over Silva
Michael Bisping eared a controversial unanimous decision win over Anderson Silva in the main event of UFC Fight Night 84.
Bisping took early advantage of Silva’s unwillingness to trade and willingness to clown by landing jabs and leg kicks. He dropped the former middleweight champion in the second round in a knockdown that seemed to energize Silva.
Silva started to pick up the pace and dropped Bisping with a flying knee at the end of the third, but Herb Dean did not stop the fight. Had Silva kept on Bisping instead of celebrating, the fight might have been over.
Silva bloodied Bisping in the championship rounds, but it wasn’t enough. The judges scored it 48-47, 48-47, 48-47.
Welcome back to The Crossfire.
Silva and Bisping earned Fight-of-the-Night while Teemu Packalen and Scott Askham earned Performances-of-the-Night. Each fighter earned an additional $50,000 USD bonus.

Kenai Andrews checks in on the main card.
#15 FRANCISCO RIVERA VS BRAD PICKETT
WINNER: BRAD PICKETT VIA SPLIT DECISION (29-28, 28-29, 29-28)
ANDREWS PREDICTION: BRAD PICKETT VIA TKO
Andrews: Pickett overcame the strikes and takedowns of Rivera to land a few of his own, and in the last round, showed he really wanted it. Good performances by both fighters.
TOM BREESE VS KEITA NAKAMURA
WINNER: TOM BREESE VIA UNANIMOUS DECISION (30-27,30-27, 29-28)
ANDREWS PREDICTION: TOM BREESE VIA UNANIMOUS DECISION
Andrews: Breese won, but when the fight was on the ground, Nakamura was more than competitive. He just didn’t strike enough and Breese was fortunate there. Good performance by Nakamura. Breese now has something to think about.
#9 GERARD MOUSASI VS #10 THALES LEITES
WINNER: GERARD MOUSASI VIA UNINAMOUS DECISION (30-27, 30-27, 30-27)
ANDREWS PREDICTION: GERARD MOUSASI VIA SUBMISSION
Andrews: Mousasi did enough to win, but he was boring to be frank. He needs to be more exciting and he should know that. Not going to get a title shot with this kind of performance.
#5 ANDERSON SILVA VS #7 MICHAEL BISPING
WINNER: MICHAEL BISPING VIA UNANIMOUS DECISION (48-47, 48-47, 48-47)
ANDREWS PREDICTION: ANDERSON SILVA VIA TKO
Andrews: A critical miscalculation by Silva and his camp to rely on the judges. Anderson gave away the early rounds and did not do enough late to win the fight. He made a critical mistake also at the end of Round three, by not keeping on Bisping after the flying knee.
