It’s the hurdle every Canadian athlete must overcome in to order to realize their Olympic dream.
Funding.
But 24-year-old Canadian Greco Roman wrestler Steven Takahashi does not get funding as wrestling does not qualify. Therefore, through a GoFundMe campaign, he’s counting on social media support to compete in the upcoming Rio 2016 Olympic qualifiers in Mongolia and Turkey.

“There is no funding available for this amateur sport endeavor and the qualification competitions are in Mongolia and Turkey, in the coming weeks,” said Takahashi’s volunteer wrestling coach David Spinney in the campaign. “Steven will need to travel to these competitions at his expense and compete for the opportunity to represent our Country at the Olympic Games. ”
