The Wiseman Report – The Iron Lady retains her grip at UFC Fight Night 86

Apple News

Maryna Moroz (7-1-0) earned a technical unanimous decision over gritty challenger Cristina Stanciu (5-1-0) at UFC Fight Night 86 in Zagreb, Croatia.

Moroz used her experience to keep her poise through Stanciu’s general aggressiveness and took the fight to the ground to control her opponent for long stretches.

Stanciu reminded me of a younger Moroz and I’m sure with more UFC fights under her belt, she will make noise in the division. I was impressed with her performance, considering it was her octagon debut.

A big congrats to Andy Nguyen (2-2-0), who won the King of the Cage women’s atomweight title over Elaine Santiago April 9th.

ONE FC’s May 6th Ascent to Power show will feature a women’s atomweight matchup as Angela Lee (5-0-0) takes on Mei Yamaguchi (15-8-1).

I love it! There will be an Asian women’s atom weight champion crowned for the first time at ONE FC.

Progress is good.

The cat is out of the bag. The returning Cat Zingano (9-1-0)  will get the now eligible for competition Julianna Pena at UFC 200.

And now for something completely different:

Nice wheels, Joanna!

This was posted on MMA Crossfire early this week, but check out mixed martial actress Erica Gimpel’s chilling performance in this scene from her one-woman play Sister. Viewer discretion is advised.

Gimpel was nominated for a Stage Raw solo performance award! Check out our conversations with her at The Crossfire.

Invicta FC bantamweight champ Tonya Evinger (17-5-0) will defend her belt against Colleen Schneider (10-6-0) at May 7th’s Invicta FC 17 in Mesa, California.

Evinger has an eight-fight win streak going. She last stopped Pannie Kianzad at Invicta FC 14. Schneider defeated Raquel Pa’aluhi at Invicta FC 15 and even did a professional wrestling bout against Shayna Baszler.

Other announced bouts include:

Livia Renata Souza (C) (9-0-0) defends against  Angela Hill (4-2-0)

Mizuki Inoue (11-4-0) vs Aline Serio (9-5-0)

Charmaine Tweet (8-5-0) vs Latoya Walker (5-0-0)

Tessa Simpson (4-1-0) vs Julia Jones (4-0-0)

Megan Anderson (5-2-0) vs Amanda Bell (3-3-0)

Christine Stanley (4-1-0) vs Shannon Sinn (2-2-0)

Rachael Ostovich (2-2-0) vs Ariel Beck (3-2-0)

Laura Howarth (2-1-0)  vs Alexa Conners (0-0-0)

Lionfight Promotions Muay Thai champion Tiffany Van Soest recently joined the strawweight division and GLORY’s kickboxing roster as well. “I am beyond thrilled to have this incredible opportunity,” said the 27-year-old Van Soest in an Invicta FC press release. “Striking has always been my passion and my official MMA debut has been greatly anticipated. I could not be happier.”

Van Soest has a defeat in her only MMA contest, but I can’t wait to see what she brings to Invicta’s strawweight division and GLORY.
