BJ Penn (16-10-2) is back once again in the UFC. And not just for a farewell tour. He wants to make history and be champion again.
The former two-time UFC champion will face Dennis Siver (22-11-0) at UFC 199.
President Dana White revealed the fight with Yahoo Sports.
Welcome back to The Crossfire.
The UFC nixed Penn’s return while it was investigating the claims, but determined since it could not verify them, Penn can return although the decision may be reversed if any new information is presented.
The UFC specifically said in a statement on its website:
UFC announced today that former UFC champion BJ Penn will return to competition on June 4 at UFC 199 against Dennis Siver in a featherweight bout.
Following a review of the matter by Campbell & Williams, a Las Vegas-based law firm hired by UFC to evaluate the situation, UFC has been informed that no criminal or civil charges have been filed against Penn to date, nor has any action been taken by local law enforcement. It should be noted that UFC reserves the right to reevaluate the matter should new information be made available.
Penn ‘s last fight was a humbling trilogy TKO loss to Frankie Edgar in July of 2014. It’s part of a three-fight losing streak that ended his career.
But Penn says he feels good training at the Jackson and Winkeljohn Academy, talking to KRQE News 13.
Siver most likely has other plans.
UFC 199 takes place June 4th at The Forum in Los Angeles, California. Middleweight champion Luke Rockhold rematches former champ Chris Weidman in the main event while bantamweight champ Dominick Cruz faces rival Uriah Faber in the co-main event.
