UFC Fight Night 87: Overeem vs Arlovski predictions

Now that Invicta FC 17 is in the books, the focus moves to Holland, where UFC heavyweights Alistair Overeem (40-14-0, 1NC) and Andrei Arlovski (25-11-0, 1NC) thrown in the main event.

Overeem seems to be in a good place, putting some distance between some disappointing performances. Arlovski was streaking until getting stopped by Stipe Miocic at UFC 195. Still, the Pitfall’s resurgence late in his career has been nothing short of fantastic.

MAIN CARD (2PM ET/11AM PT)

#10 KAROLINA KOWALKIEWICZ (8-0-0) VS HEATHER JO CLARK (7-4-0)

UFC Fight Night 87
Opponents Karolina Kowalkiewicz of Poland and Heather Jo Clark face off during the UFC weigh-in at Ahoy Rotterdam on May 7, 2016 in Rotterdam, Netherlands. (Photo by Josh Hedges/Zuffa LLC/Zuffa LLC via Getty Images)

Andrews: Kowalkiewicz is the new thing on the strawweight scene and is coming off a good debut win over Randa Markos. Clark by contrast, aside from TUF 20, hasn’t been in the octagon since a 2014 win over Bec Rawlings. She hasn’t been the most active fighter though she says fine-tuned her training. I’m going with Karolina.

Andrews Prediction: Karolina Kowalkiewicz via unanimous decision

#14 NIKITA KRYLOV (19-4-0) VS FRANCIMAR BARROSO (18-4-0)

UFC Fight Night 87
Opponents Nikita Krylov of Ukraine and Francimar Barroso of Brazil face off during the UFC weigh-in at Ahoy Rotterdam on May 7, 2016 in Rotterdam, Netherlands. (Photo by Josh Hedges/Zuffa LLC/Zuffa LLC via Getty Images)

Andrews: Both fighters have similar records, but Krylov looks for the submission, while over half of Barroso’s wins have come by knockout. Krylov is 12 years Barroso’s junior. Despite Krylov’s tendency to lose by submission when he loses, I think these guys will cancel each other out for the most part, with Krylov doing enough to get the decision.

Andrews Prediction: Nikita Krylov via unanimous decision

#14 GERMAINE DE RANDAMIE (5-3-0) VS ANNA ELMOSE (3-0-0)

UFC Fight Night 87
Opponents Germaine de Randamie of The Netherlands and Anna Elmose of Denmark face off during the UFC weigh-in at Ahoy Rotterdam on May 7, 2016 in Rotterdam, Netherlands. (Photo by Josh Hedges/Zuffa LLC/Zuffa LLC via Getty Images)

Andrews: De Randamie is welcoming Elmose to the octagon. Elmore has knocked out all of her opponents, but De Randamie has significant height and reach advantages here. Elmose is young and scrappy though, but will she push through the UFC jitters? I don’t know, so I have to go with The Iron Lady.

Andrews Prediction: Germaine de Randamie via unanimous decision

#13 ALBERT TUMENOV (17-2-0) VS GUNNAR NELSON (14-2-1)

UFC Fight Night 87
Opponents Albert Tumenov of Russia and Gunnar Nelson of Iceland face off during the UFC weigh-in at Ahoy Rotterdam on May 7, 2016 in Rotterdam, Netherlands. (Photo by Josh Hedges/Zuffa LLC/Zuffa LLC via Getty Images)

Andrews: I always thought when Nelson lost to Story, he was a bit too casual about it. That was a disappointing performance. Then after a good win over Thatch, he was schooled by Demain Maia. Meanwhile, I am impressed with the no-nonsense finishes of Tumenov. E=GunnarKO.

Andrews Prediction: Albert Tumenov via TKO

#12 ANTONIO SILVA (19-8-0, 1NC) VS STEFAN STRUVE (30-8-0)

UFC Fight Night 87
Opponents Antonio Silva of Brazil and Stefan Struve of The Netherlands face off during the UFC weigh-in at Ahoy Rotterdam on May 7, 2016 in Rotterdam, Netherlands. (Photo by Josh Hedges/Zuffa LLC/Zuffa LLC via Getty Images)

Andrews: At this stage of their careers, both guys are what they are. Struve will never use his reach effectively. Silva without TRT is a lesser fighter. This gives Struve the advantage. He just needs to avoid the big shot as he can also finish on the mat.

Andrews Prediction: Stefan Struve via unanimous decision

MAIN EVENT

#3 ALISTAIR OVEREEM (40-14-0, 1NC) VS #5 ANDREI ARLOVSKI (25-11-0, 1NC)

UFC Fight Night 87
Opponents Alistair Overeem of The Netherlands and Andrei Arlovski of Belarus face off during the UFC weigh-in at Ahoy Rotterdam on May 7, 2016 in Rotterdam, Netherlands. (Photo by Josh Hedges/Zuffa LLC/Zuffa LLC via Getty Images)

Andrews: Overeem has been doing well lately, but I think he’s due for a relapse. The speed of the Pitfall will frustrate him and expose him to a flash knockout. Arvloski has to avoid the kicks and shots as his chin is still fragile. I think he will get it done.

Andrews Prediction: Andrei Arlovski via TKO
