Almeida comes into the fight with a significant 5-inch reach advantage.
Welcome back to The Crossfire.
Kenai Andrews checks in with his thoughts on the main card.
TSN 5 MAIN CARD (9PM PT/6PM PT)
In case you missed the weigh-ins:
JOSHUA BURKMAN (29-12-0, 1NC) VS PAUL FELDER (11-2-0)
Andrews: Felder put it together in his last fight and I can’t see Burkman penetrating his Muay Thai strikes other than the takedown. But Felder will be prepared and force Burkman to play the striking game in his favour.
Andrews Prediction: Paul Felder via unanimous decision
JORGE MASVIDAL (29-10-0) VS LORENZ LARKIN (16-5-0, 1NC)
Andrews: Larkin is still smarting from his last fight and I look for him to turn it up and be more aggressive than just leg kicks against the crafty Masvidal. I wouldn’t be shocked if Masvidal got the decision, but this fight is Larkin’s to lose and I think he’ll show up.
CHRIS CAMOZZI (23-10-0) VS VITOR MIRANDA (13-4-0)
Andrews: Miranda looked good in his last fight and I think he will showcase his striking again against Camozzi who is good, but I don’t he can survive the footwork and power of Miranda.
Andrews Prediction: Vitor Miranda via TKO
#10 TAREC SAFFIEDINE (16-4-0) VS #11 RICK STORY (18-8-0)
Andrews: Rick Story has surprised me several times before and this time I’m going with him in the upset. He has the grappling and power to put Saffiedine on his back.
RENAN BARAO (35-3-0, 1NC) VS #9 JEREMY STEPHENS (24-12-0)
Andrews: This is Barao’s first fight at featherweight since he lost the bantamweight title. He should have more energy and power, but now he faces another powerful guy in Stephens, who will be looking for the takedown. Still, I think Barao will catch Stephens before he can drag the fight to the ground.
Andrews Prediction: Renan Barao via unanimous decision
#7 THOMAS ALMEIDA (21-0-0) VS CODY GARBRANDT (8-0-0)
Andrews: Both guys are exciting, but it’s Almeida who likes to take more chances. The Pickett fight was a prime example of that, but he needs to be carful with a guy like Garbrandt. No Love to me seems the more methodical one. If the opening is there, he’ll take it, but he will try to wear down Almeida first before biting down. That style favours Garbrandt, but we don’t know about his chin and he has less experience. It’s also five rounds, a lot of time for Almeida to land a finish. Tough one, but I am going with No Love in the upset.
Andrews Prediction: Cody Garbrandt via submission.
