A star is being born in Bellator’s new women’s flyweight division.
In the first round, MacFarlane used her grappling to neutralize the heavy shots of Ruth on the feet, pinning her against the cage and getting brief takedowns.
In the second frame, MacFarlane almost finished Ruth early, getting a quick takedown and locking in the rear-naked choke which Ruth fought off several times. But MacFarlane kept the pressure on, controlling her with a body lock. When Ruth stood up, MacFarlane jumped on her back, set her hooks in and again clamped on the choke, forcing Ruth to tap at the 3:00 mark of Round 2.

It was another impressive win for the charismatic 26-year-old, and it’s obvious the company is promoting her as one of its key stars. Will she cruise to the featherweight belt? Only time will tell, but MacFarlane looks to be one of the favourites to take it all.
Also at Bellator 157, 28-year-old Katy Collins (4-1-0) used an armbar to submit Michelle Pearce (1-1-0) 48 seconds into the first round. Collins quickly got into the mount and rained down punches on Pearce, who tried to resist, before Collins quickly slapped on the armbar.
Both fighters were making their Bellator flyweight debuts.
It’s early, but Bellator’s flyweight division seems to be heating up.
