UFC 200: Tate vs Nunes predictions

UFC Vegas 47: Jack Hermansson or Sean Strickland?
18 votes

Card subject to change. Truer words were never spoken with UFC 200.

But, the show must go on.

The main event is now women’s bantamweight champion Miesha Tate (18-5-0) defending against #1 contender Amanda Nunes (12-4-0).

That means the co-main event is back to former heavyweight champion Brock Lesnar, returning to the octagon for the first time in over five years, facing #8-ranked New Zealander Mark Hunt (12-10-1).

And even though Jon Jones was pulled, Daniel Cormier still gets to fight none other than Anderson Silva!

Welcome back to The Crossfire.

Kenai Andrews checks in with his thoughts on the card:

JIM MILLER (25-8-0) VS TAKANORI GOMI (35-11-0)

UFC 200

ODDS: Jim Miller -260  (5/13)     Takanori Gomi +200  (2/1)

Method of Victory:

Jim Miller wins inside distance – 11/10

Jim Miller wins by 3 round decision – 11/5

Takanori Gomi wins inside distance – 3/1

Takanori Gomi wins by 3 round decision – 11/2

Draw – 99/1

Andrews: Both fighters have two-fight losing skids, but Miller should still have something left in the tank as opposed to Gomi. Miller’s losses have been to the best and as long as he doesn’t try to outslug Gomi, he should be able to wear him out and get a submission.

Andrews Prediction: Jim Miller via submission.

UFC 200

ODDS: Gerard Mousasi -280  (5/14)    Thiago Santos   +220  (11/5)

Method of Victory

Gegard Mousasi wins inside distance – 8/5

Gegard Mousasi wins by 3 round decision – 7/5

Thiago Santos wins inside distance – 7/2

Thiago Santos wins by 3 round decision – 5/1

Draw – 99/1

Andrews: We have seen a strategic Mousasi since his loss to Uriah Hall. If that Mousasi shows up, it should be a boring decision win, but Santos has shown he can catch anyone with his strikes and his ground game is no joke either. It all depends on who can get the early advantage and I’m going with the striker. Thiago Santos.

Andrews Prediction: Thiago Santos via TKO

DIEGO SANCHEZ (26-8-0) VS JOE LAUZON (25-11-0)

UFC 200

ODDS: Diego Sanchez –  Even (1/1)   Joe Lauzon   -130  (10/13)

Draw – 99/1

Andrews: Great matchup. Both are entertaining and leave it all in there, but you have to be impressed with Sanchez. He’s used his wrestling in addition to his aggressive striking and I think he will outstrike Lauzon and avoid the submissions of Lauzon. This is one to watch with a big bowl of popcorn and a cold one.

Andrews Prediction: Diego Sanchez via TKO

UFC 200

ODDS: Sage Northcutt – -340 (5/17)    Enrique Marin +260 (13/5)

Method of Victory

Sage Northcutt wins inside distance – 7/5

Sage Northcutt wins by 3 round decision – 7/4

Enrique Marin wins inside distance – 4/1

Enrique Marin wins by 3 round decision – 11/2

Draw – 115/1

Andrews: Northcutt learned from his last fight, a loss to Bryan Barberena. He didn’t rush back in, took some time to recover and he should be ready to put away Martin. Enrique needs to get the fight to the ground, which Sage will be wary of.

Andrews Prediction: Sage Northcutt via TKO

UFC 200

ODDS:  T.J. Dillashaw -400  (1/4)   Raphael Assuncao +300  (3/1)

Method of Victory

T.J. Dillashaw wins inside distance – 2/1

T.J. Dillashaw wins by 3 round decision – 4/5

Raphael Assuncao wins inside distance – 6/1

Raphael Assuncao wins by 3 round decision – 19/4

Draw – 110/1

Andrews: Dillashaw lost a 2013 split-decision to Assuncao and now he’s a better fighter looking to even the score. TJ’s footwork should see him through if he can avoid the Assuncao’s power and  ground game.

Andrews Prediction: TJ Dillashaw via unanimous decision

UFC 200

ODDS:  Johny Hendricks -130  (10/13)   Kelvin Gastelum – Even  (1/1)

Method of Victory

Johny Hendricks wins inside distance – 9/4

Johny Hendricks wins by 3 round decision – 3/2

Kelvin Gastelum wins inside distance – 5/1

Kelvin Gastelum wins by 3 round decision – 2/1

Draw – 110/1

Andrews: It’s been a long road for Hendricks. He missed weight again and he’s going to need his gas tank for Gastelum. But he wants to make up for the loss to Stephen Thompson and I think he tries to make a statement with Gastelum.  But once he sees Gastelum is tough, he’ll use his wrestling to get the job done.

Andrews Prediction: Johny Hendricks via unanimous decision

UFC 200

ODDS:  Cat Zingano -175  (4/7)   Julianna Pena +150  (3/2)

Method of Victory

Cat Zingano wins inside distance – 2/1

Cat Zingano wins by 3 round decision – 9/5

Julianna Pena wins inside distance – 15/4

Julianna Pena wins by 3 round decision – 5/2

Draw – 99/1

Andrews: Another great matchup. It’s unfortunate for Pena, who is a solid fighter, but Cat Zigano is on a mission. It won’t be easy, but when the dust settles, she will get her hand raised. And that’s that.

Andrews Prediction: Cat Zingano via unanimous decision

UFC 200

ODDS:  Cain Velasquez -300  (1/3)   Travis Browne +240  (12/5)

Method of Victory

Cain Velasquez wins inside distance – 5/7

Cain Velasquez wins by 3 round decision – 3/1

Travis Browne wins inside distance – 3/1

Travis Browne wins by 3 round decision – 17/2

Draw – 125/1

Andrews: Will the dominant Cain Velasquez of old show up? If he does, then he should be able to get the decision. But we haven’t seen that Cain in awhile. He says he’s training smarter but Browne is a dangerous big guy with crafty strikes. But they all go down when Cain takes them down.

Andrews Prediction: Cain Velasquez via unanimous decision

JOSE ALDO (25-2-0) VS FRANKIE EDGAR (20-4-1)

UFC 200

ODDS: Jose Aldo – Even (1/1)    Frankie Edgar -130 (10/13)

Method of Victory

Jose Aldo wins inside distance – 9/4

Jose Aldo wins by 5 round decision – 14/5

Frankie Edgar wins inside distance – 9/4

Frankie Edgar wins by 5 round decision – 2/1

Draw – 99/1

Andrews: Aldo beat Edgar previously as champion and he’s on a mission since he lost to Conor McGregor, but Edgar has looked nothing short of impressive since then. Edgar overcomes Aldo’s striking to use his own strikes and wrestling to wear down Jose.

Andrews Prediction: Frankie Edgar via unanimous decision

UFC 200

Andrews: Kudos to The Spider for stepping up on two days notice and while I would not be surprised if the 41-year-old legend pulled another highlight knockout out of his bag of tricks, Cormier should be able to pressure Silva with his wrestling and knock out a decision win.

Andrews Prediction: Daniel Cormier via unanimous decision

#8 MARK HUNT (12-10-1) VS BROCK LESNAR (5-3-0)

UFC 200

ODDS:  Mark Hunt -180  (5/9)    Brock Lesnar +150  (3/2)

Method of Victory

Mark Hunt wins inside distance – 10/11

Mark Hunt wins by 3 round decision – 11/2

Brock Lesnar wins inside distance – 9/5

Brock Lesnar wins by 3 round decision  – 5/1

Draw – 99/1

Andrews: Brock is returning from a 5-year layoff and the question is can he take a punch from Hunt? Can he get the takedown? Lesnar should be rusty and Hunt only needs one good shot to get the fight in his favour. Have to go with The Super Samoan, but it should be entertaining.

Andrews Prediction: Mark Hunt via TKO

UFC 200

ODDS: Miesha Tate -260  (5/13)   Amanda Nunes +200  (2/1)

Method of Victory

Miesha Tate wins inside distance  – 4/5

Miesha Tate wins by 5 round decision  – 3/1

Amanda Nunes  wins inside distance – 5/2

Amanda Nunes  wins by 5 round decision – 8/1

Draw – 99/1

Andrews: Nunes is talented but Tate should prove to be too much with her wrestling and striking. Nunes best shot is in the first round, before Tate has a chance to get comfortable.

Andrews Prediction:  Miesha Tate via unanimous decision
