Invicta FC 18: Grasso vs Esquibel predictions

Invicta FC 18 takes place tomorrow night and despite a few late changes, all eyes are on strawweights Alexa Grasso (7-0-0) and Jodie Esquibel (5-1-0).

Both would love a shot at Angela Hill’s strawweight title and an impressive win could launch the winner into the title shot conversation.

In case you missed the weigh-ins:

SIJARA EUBANKS (1-1-0) VS AMBERLYNN ORR (0-0)

Invicta FC 18

Andrews: This one is a tossup. Can Orr take Eubank’s shots and get the fight to the ground? If she can, she has a great chance of winning the fight. If she gets caught, it could be an early night. I like Eubank’s power game and experience a lot but she can gas late when pushed. I think Orr pulls it out after a scary first round.

Andrews Prediction: Amberlynn Orr via submission

ASPEN LADD (3-0-0) VS JESSICA HOY (1-0-0)

Invicta FC 18

Andrews: The advantage on paper is Ladd as she has more experienced and more versatile than the Invicta rookie Hoy. But Jessica has the height and reach advantages and if you’ve read her story, you know she’s tough as nails. Still, I expect Ladd’s experience and ground game to see her through here.

Andrews Prediction: Aspen Ladd via submission

SIMONA SOUKUPOVA (5-3-1) VS TESSA SIMPSON (4-1-0)

Invicta FC 18

Andrews: Simpson at 29-years-old is ten years younger than Sokupova and is making her Invicta debut. Soukupova has the experience advantage but I think Simpson pulls out some tricks to get the tap on the ground.

Andrews Prediction: Tessa Simpson via submission

MEGAN ANDERSON (6-2-0) VS PEGGY MORGAN (4-3-0)

Invicta FC 18

Andrews: Although Morgan is tall with excellent reach, she doesn’t fight big and is often bullied by smaller opponents. But Anderson is almost as big as her and her strikes are formidable. Anderson will break down Morgan and get the finish.

Andrews Prediction: Megan Anderson via TKO

CINDY DANDOIS (6-2-0) VS JESSAMYN DUKE (3-4-0, 1NC)

Invicta FC 18

Andrews: It’s been a rough stretch for The Four Horsewomen and none moreso than Duke, who is on a four-fight losing skid. She was  taken out by Irene Aldana in her last fight on the feet and she will get taken to the ground and submitted by Dandois.

Andrews Prediction: Cindy Dandois via submission

MIZUKI INOUE (11-4-0) VS LYNN ALVAREZ (6-3-0)

Invicta FC 18

Andrews: Although Alvarez is making her Invicta debut, she’s fought and lost to some top competition in Carla Esparza and Jessica Aguilar. Inoue has also fought good competition and I think she gets another armbar tap after some tough moments on the feet.

Andrews Prediction: Mizuki Inoue via submission

AGNIESZKA NIEDQIEDZ (7-0-0) VS CHRISTINE STANLEY (5-1-0)

Invicta FC 18

Andrews: This could be the Fight of the Night. Both fighters combined have ten (10) finishes and at the weigh-ins they looked ready to go. Stanley didn’t make weight and will be fined 25%, but in fairness she taking the fight on very short notice. Gonna go with the “Kuma.” finish.

Andrews Prediction: Agnieszka Niedzwiedz via TKO

MAIN EVENT

ALEXA GRASSO (7-0-0) VS JODIE ESQUIBEL (5-1-0)

Invicta FC 18

Andrews: Grasso’s striking will give Esquivel problems and while both fighters have shown good cardio, Esquibel has only one finish in her five wins and will likely look to get the fight to the ground. Grasso will enjoy significant reach and height advantages as well. Grasso will pile up the points before Esquibel can do enough damage on the ground.

Andrews Prediction: Alexa Grasso via unanimous decision
