The City of Mississauga is ready to host the 2016 Ontario Summer Games (OSG) August 11th with plenty of events for combat sports fans to get behind.
Boxing, Karate, Kickboxing, Taekwondo, Wrestling, Weightlifting, Fencing and more are on the slate with free admission to all of the sporting events.
In a total of four days, approximately 3500 athletes will compete in 34 events, with over 2000 medals awarded.
Welcome back to The Crossfire.
The Ontario Summer Games started in 1970 and are held every two years. It’s considered by many young amateur athletes as a stepping stone to bigger things like the Pan Am Games or The Olympics.

BOXING
Boxing is sanctioned by Boxing Ontario.
Venue: The Hershey Centre, 5500 Rose Cherry Place, Mississauga, Ontario
Qualifying starts Friday, August 12th at 3:30PM EST to 5PM EST (Session 1).

TAEKWONDO
Venue: Erin Meadows Community Centre: 2800 Erin Centre Blvd, Mississauga, Ontario.
Qualifying starts Friday, August 12th to Saturday, August 13th, from 9AM EST to 4PM EST.

WRESTLING
Venue: Hershey Sportzone at 5600 Rose Cherry Pl, Mississauga, Ontario L4Z 4B6.
Wrestling features a dual meet format between Ontario’s six regions, sanctioned by the Ontario Amateur Wrestling Association:
Eastern Ontario, Central East Ontario
North West Ontario , Central West Ontario
North East Ontario, South West Ontario
Qualifying starts Friday, August 12th at 9AM EST.

KARATE
Sanctioned by Karate Ontario, participants (12-13, 14-15, 16-17 years-old) are by invitation-only after qualifying.
The gold medalist will be automatically selected for the Ontario team for the 2017 Nationals competition.
Venue: Frank McKechnie Community Centre, 310 Bristol Rd E, Mississauga, ON, L4Z 3V5
Qualifying starts Friday, August 12th at 9AM EST to 5PM EST, with the awards ceremony at 6PM EST.

KICKBOXING
Kickboxing is sanctioned by the Council of Amateur Sport Kickboxing. It’s a three-day (3) competition with five (5) sessions. Male and female athletes, aged 12-18 will compete.
Venue: The Hershey Centre, 5500 Rose Cherry Place, Mississauga, Ontario L4Z 4B6
Qualifying starts Friday, August 12th at 1PM EST (Session 1).

WEIGHTLIFTING
Weightlifting is sanctioned by the Ontario Weightlifting Association. A one-day event for Junior and Youth athletes aged 13-20 years old. Events include the Snatch and Clean & Jerk.
Venue: Hershey SportZone, 5600 Rose Cherry Place, Mississauga, Ontario, L4Z 4B6
Qualifying starts Friday, August 12th at 10AM EST to 3PM EST, with the awards ceremony at 4PM EST.

FENCING
Fencing is a three-day (3) event in the under-17 and under-15 age groups. Categories include individual preliminaries, individual cadet championships, and team championships. It’s overseen by the Ontario Fencing Association.
Venue: Hershey Community Rinks, 5500 Rose Cherry Place, Mississauga, Ontario, L4Z 4B6
Qualifying starts Friday, August 12th at 9AM EST to 11AM EST and 1PM EST to 3PM EST.
