Jacob Robinson earned a split-decision win over Louise Reyes to win the gold medal at the Ontario Summer Games 56-60kg final, Saturday evening at the Hershey Centre in Mississauga.
Robinson, who trains with Joe LeBlanc out of the Fighting Island Boxing Club in Amherstburg, Ontario, overcame a good opening round by Reyes. He stayed active, threw combinations, and outlasted a fatigued Reyes in the second and third rounds.
Reyes (7-4-0, 3 KOs) took home the silver medal.
MMA Crossfire Vault: Louise Reyes eager to put his stamp on the Ontario Summer Games
“I think that my opponent and I did what we could do in the fight,” Reyes – who trains with Noel Clubb out of Scarborough’s Clubb Canada gym – said in a text when contacted by MMA Crossfire. “In the end, he was able to pull out more punches than I could and he was very prepared for the battle. I think he deserves this victory.”
After two rounds, the fight was close. Both fighters needed a decisive final frame to secure the win.
“The plan going into the final round was to give it everything I could and throw every punch that was left,” Reyes said.
Where Reyes goes from here is a little unclear. He is scheduled to compete as a member of Team Canada against Team Ireland overseas in late October.

“I think Louie needs to reflect as to what he wants,” Clubb said. “Because he is on a bigger stage now and his training needs to reflect that.”
“I will come back when I’m ready,” Reyes said.
