Samman was much more than a UFC middleweight, occassionally writing for and MMA website BloodyElbow, managing the MMA promotion Combat Night as its CEO.

In September, Samman was angling for a UFC 205 bout with Oluwale Bamgbose.

Samman also had some well-documented struggles with drugs and tragedy, losing his girlfriend in a text-and-drive influenced car crash. He found the time to document the experiences in his book The Housekeeper: Love, Death and Prizefighting.

As of this time, the UFC has not officially commented on Samman’s death.

Funeral plans have not been released.

A service is scheduled today for Samman’s friend Troy Jeffrey Kirkingburg in Hillsdale, MI.
