Former UFC lightweight champion Eddie Alvarez (28-5-0) took to Instagram to share his thoughts on his loss to Conor McGregor at New York’s UFC 205 last Saturday.

In a fairly candid post, Alvarez acknowledged his poor performance was a result of not sticking to the game plan, but tried to put the loss in its proper perspective.

Alvarez was knocked down three times in the first round and at least twice more in the second round. Many fans wondered why he did not use his wrestling to neutralize McGregor’s striking.

McGregor became the UFC’s first two-division champion with the victory.

Lightweight Kevin Lee (13-2-0) was one of the fighters that was openly critical of Alvarez’s performance.

Lee is scheduled to fight Magomed Mustafaev (13-1-0) at Belfast’s UFC Fight Night 99 this Saturday.
