It was a good season of TUF 24 with Tim Elliott left standing from all of the regional flyweight champions on the show.
Welcome back to The Crossfire.
Kenai Andrews checks in with his thoughts.
TUF 24 FINALE
JOSHUA STANSBURY (8-3-0) VS DEVIN CLARK (6-1-0)
Andrews: We saw Stansbury defeat an injured Cory Hendricks on TUF 23, but I think he has the smarts to not trade with Clark and get the fight to the ground for a submission. Clark seems to take a lot of damage and I don’t think he can keep the fight standing.
Andrews: Prediction: Joshua Stansbury via submission
ELVIS MUTAPCIC (15-4-1) VS ANTHONY SMITH (25-12-0)
Andrews: Elvis hasn’t been finished yet but can he deal with the length of Smith, a guy who tends to go out on his shield? I’m going with the upset here.
Andrews: Prediction: Anthony Smith via TKO
KAILIN CURRAN (4-3-1) VS JAMIE MOYLE (3-1-0)
Andrews: Curran has good striking and she is welcoming Moyle to the octagon, but I’m not sure she can stop the grappling of Moyle. Assuming she can overcome the octagon jitters, Moyle should be able to grind this one out.
Andrews: Prediction: Jamie Moyle via unanimous decision
DONG HYUN KIM (13-8-3) VS BRENDAN O’REILLY (6-2-0, 1NC)
Andrews: Both guys need a win badly. Both seem to have decent ground games, but O’Reilly has fought higher level competition and I think he can fare better on the feet.
Andrews: Prediction: Brendan O’Reilly via unanimous decision
ROB FONT (12-2-0) VS MATT SCHNELL (9-2-0)
Andrews: Font was bullied by John Lineker in his last bout and I think Schnell can do something similar but on the ground. Danger, danger.
Andrews: Prediction: Matt Schnell via submission
GRAY MAYNARD (12-5-1) VS RYAN HALL (5-1-0)
Andrews: Can Hall frustrate Maynard like he did with Lobov? Maynard has wrestling in case his strikes aren’t landing, so he should be able to grind it out if he can get a hold of Hall. Graynard’s wrestling should trump Hall’s BJJ, so The Bully should get the win.
Andrews: Prediction: Gary Maynard via unanimous decision
#12 BRANDON MORENO (12-3-0) VS RYAN BENOIT (9-4-0)
Andrews: Moreno will take down and submit Benoit before “Baby Face” can knock him out.
Andrews: Prediction: Brandon Moreno via submission
#7 SARA MCMANN (9-3-0) VS ALEXIS DAVIS (16-6-0)
Andrews: McMann has been working on her striking, and she has Olympic level grappling should she need it, but has she improved her ground defence game? Davis is crafty so I wouldn’t be surprised if she caught McMann with a submission, but McMann should show her improvements in this fight.
Andrews: Prediction: Sara McMann via unanimous decision
ION CUTELABA (12-2-0, 1NC) VS JARED CANNONIER (8-1-0)
Andrews: Cutelaba is favoured, but I’m going with the underdog Jared Cannonier catch Ion with a bomb. I don’t know how is he going to do it though.
Andrews: Prediction: Jared Cannonier via TKO
#15 JAKE ELLENBERGER (31-11-0) VS JORGE MASVIDAL (30-11-0)
Andrews: Masvidal has the striking to make Elleberger revert back to the cautious version that lost all those bouts. On the other hand, is Masvidal is worried about the takedown, he could less effective, but I’m going with “Gamebred.”
Andrews: Prediction: Jorge Masvidal via unanimous decision
#1 JOSEPH BENAVIDEZ (24-4-0) VS #2 HENRY CEJUDO (10-1-0)
Andrews: Benavidez got the better of Cejudo just about everywhere on TUF 24 and he will here too. Joe-Jitsu and the experience and wrestling of Benavidez will trump the power, and Olympic wrestling of Cejudo.
Andrews Prediction: Joseph Benavidez via unanimous decision
DEMETRIOUS JOHNSON (24-2-1) VS TIM ELLIOTT (10-6-1)
Andrews: The great run of Tim Elliott stops here. DJ is the best and assuming he isn’t overconfident, he will coast to a submission win.
Andrews Prediction: Demetrious Johnson via submission
