UFC 206: Holloway vs Pettis predictions

The UFC finally returns to Toronto tonight, but with a stitched up card lacking the pizazz of the original main event. However, Max Holloway and Anthony Pettis crave moments of like these, where they can step up. Can they make UFC 206 memorable?

Welcome back to The Crossfire.

Kenai Andrews shares his thoughts.

FIGHTPASS EARLY PRELIMS (6:30PM ET/3:30 PM PT)

#7 ZACH MAKOVSKY VS #11 DUSTIN ORTIZ (15-6-0)

UFC 206

Andrews: Both guys need a win badly. I’m going for Ortiz to try and end things early, going for the knockout with Fun Size looking for submissions but more than willing to get the decision.

Andrews Prediction: Zach Makovaky via unanimous decision

JASON SAGGO (12-2-0) VS RUSTAM KHABILOV (20-3-0)

UFC 206

Andrews: Khabilov missed weight for this one. Saggo has decent standup, but I don’t know if he can defend the takedown for three rounds.

Andrews Prediction: Rustam Khabilov via unanimous decision

JOHN MAKDESSI (14-5-0) VS LANDO VANNATA (8-1-0)

UFC 206

Andrews: Vannata did well on short notice against Tony Ferguson. Makdessi is a solid fighter, but I think Vannata has more ways to win, and is willing to take the fight to the ground if things aren’t working on the feet.

Andrews Prediction: Lando Vannata via unanimous decision

TSN 5 PRELIMS (8 PM ET/5PM PT)

MITCH GAGNON (12-3-0) VS MATTHEW LOPEZ (8-1-0)

UFC 206

Andrews: Gagnon is coming back from injury, but he performed well against Renan Barao in is last fight, though it was a loss. I think he can take the fight to the ground and pile up the points on Lopez, who was overwhelmed by Rani Yahya previously.

Andrews Prediction: Mitch Gagnon via submission

#9 VALERIE LETOURNEAU VS VIVIANE PEREIRA (11-0-0)

UFC 206

Andrews: Although she missed weight, Letourneau is welcoming Periera to the octagon. Valerie has the experience advantage, and assuming her cardio is okay, should get the decision with her standup.

Andrews Prediction: Valerie Letourneau via unanimous decision

OLIVIER AUBIN-MERCIER (9-2-0) VS DREW DOBER (17-7-0, 1NC)

UFC 206

Andrews: OAM takes fighters to the ground and looks for the submission. Dober likes to use his striking, but I think Aubin-Mercier will impose his gameplan before Dober can knock him out.

Andrews Prediction: Olivier Aubin-Mercier via unanimous decision

#8 NIKITA KRYLOV (21-4-0) VS #13 MISHA CIRKUNOV (12-2-0)

UFC 206

Andrews: Krylov is dangerous is on the feet, but I like the street smarts and wrestling of Cirkunov to wear out Krylov in the clinch and on the mat.

Andrews Prediction: Misha Cirkunov via unanimous decision

MAIN CARD (10PM ET/7PM PT)

JORDAN MEIN (29-10-0) VS EMIL MEEK (8-2-1, 1NC)

UFC 206

Andrews: It’s upset time. Mein is a good striker, but is returning from a layoff and has shown he can be hurt relatively easily. Meek will hurt him and score the upset finish.

Andrews Prediction: Emil Meek via TKO

#10 TIM KENNEDY (18-5-0) VS KELVIN GASTELUM (13-2-0)

UFC 206

Andrews: An angry Tim Kennedy should take this despite the fact Gastelum will probably perform better at 185. It won’t be pretty though, just a grinding Kennedy win on the ground.

Andrews Prediction: Tim Kennedy via unanimous decision

#4 CUB SWANSON (23-7-0) VS #11 DOOHO CHOI (14-1-0)

UFC 206

Andrews: Swanson is good, but the technical striking of Choi will prove to be too much. It’s that simple.

Andrews Prediction: Dooho Choi via TKO

#5 DONALD CERRONE (31-7-0, 1NC) VS #14 MATT BROWN (22-15-0)

UFC 206

Andrews: Donald Cerrone is too good everywhere on the mat for Brown. Brown will look like one big target for Cerrone to tee off on.

Andrews Prediction: Donald Cerrone via TKO

MAIN EVENT

#2 MAX HOLLOWAY (16-3-0) VS #5 ANTHONY PETTIS (19-5-0)

UFC 206

Andrews: A star is born. The striking of Max Holloway will overcome Showtime, who disclosed a medical issue was the reason for him missing weight.

Andrews Prediction: Max Holloway via TKO
