The fight was announced during UFC 208.

Aldo was deemed the first UFC featherweight champion in 2011, when the WEC was bought by the company. He defended it seven times before dropping it to Conor McGregor at UFC 194.

He was reinstated as champion when McGregor vacated the belt.

Holloway won the interim belt last December, defeating Anthony Pettis at Toronto’s UFC 206. He is currently enjoying a 10-fight win streak that includes seven finishes.

More bouts are expected to be announced for UFC 212.
