Bellator 172: Fedor vs Mitrione main event scrapped due to illness

Bellator president Scott Coker announced late Saturday evening that the planned Bellator 172 main event featuring Fedor Emelianenko and Matt Mitrione has been cancelled due to a Mitirione illness.

Josh Thomson (22-8-0) and Patrick Friere (16-8-0) have been upgraded to the main event.

It was reported that several fighters stepped up to replace Mitrione, including Chael Sonnen and Tito Ortiz but no agreement was reached.

The card continues to roll on, with the main card starting at 9 p.m. ET tonight on Spike.
