Roy Jones Jr. scores TKO win, answers challenge by Imamu Mayfield

New WBF cruiserweight champion Roy Jones Jr. (64-9-0, 46 KOs) was dominant in a 8th-round TKO win over Canadian Bobby Gunn (21-7-1, 18 KOs) last night at the Chase Center in Wilmington, Delaware.

Only one fighter was really in the fight, with the 48-year-old Jones feeding the 43-year-old Gunn a steady diet of jabs and combinations.

It culminated in the seventh round when a vintage Jones straight left jab-right hook-left hook combination wobbled Gunn late. Gunn’s nose started bleeding and seconds into the eighth, the referee stopped the bout.

Jones was equally vintage in the post-fight interview, answering a potential challenge by 44-year old New Jersey fighter and former IBF champ Imamu Mayfield (26-10-2, 19 KOs).

Now that Jones has unvacated the belt, he intends to keep fighting, although he has not made an immediate decision on who or when his next fight will be.

Mayfield will have to keep playing the waiting game, for now.
