ONE Championship champion Angela Lee retained her atomweight crown with a first-round TKO win over Jenny Huang at ONE: Warrior Kingdom March 11 in Bangkok, Thailand.

Lee showed off her improved her striking, preventing Huang from bringing the fight to the ground and making her rely primarily on counterstrikes until the third round, when Lee took Huang to the mat, flattened her out and reigned down strikes until the referee called the bout at 3:37 of the third frame.

The victory was the undefeated Lee’s seventh victory.

Crossfire readers keeping score will remember our conversations with Lee and Huang, which were posted during Fight Week. I particularly remember Lee saying she wanted to show everyone who she was as a champion and she certainly did that.

Huang (5-1-0) did show heart in battling through and trying to counter. I do believe she was softened up by the strikes that by the time the fight finally went to the ground, she could not recover.

Let’s see who “Unstoppable” fights next.

Meanwhile, at UFC Fight Night 106 yesterday, there was the majority draw between #9 Bethe Correia and #13 Marion Reneau.

Correia’s strikes and clinching were giving Reneau some problems, who landed some counters of her own, but it was the dominant 10-8 round where she had Correia on the ropes that helped save the bout for her.

The ground fighting was a little sloppy, but it was a good scrap. I don’t think we need to see a rematch soon though.

Also, the Legacy Fighting Alliance had LFA 6 on Friday, with BJJ star Mackenzie Dern (3-0-0) decisioning Katherine Roy (1-1-0).

They keep setting them up for Dern and she keeps knocking them down.

Now what was this about?
