UFC 212: Kelvin Gastelum meets Anderson Silva

The UFC announced today that middleweight Kelvin Gastelum (14-2-0) will face Brazilian legend Anderson Silva (34-8-0, 1NC) at Rio de Janeiro’s UFC 212.

Gastelum is coming off a convincing TKO win over another legend in Vitor Belfort at UFC Fight Night 106 last Saturday. After that bout in the post-fight press conference, he mentioned wanting to fight Anderson Silva and it appears the UFC has granted his wish.

Silva meanwhile, returned to the win column at UFC 208, defeating Derek Brunson via unanimous decision.

It will be interesting to see if Gastelum can outstrike Silva like he did against Belfort. Looking at his Twitter account, there appears to be no shortage of confidence from the former TUF winner. Conversely, there are many critics who still believe Brunson won the fight against a lacklustre Silva.

UFC 212 is scheduled to take place June 3 at the HSBC Arena in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil.

The current card lineup is:

Max Holloway (17-3-0) vs Jose Aldo (26-2-0)

Claudia Gadelha (14-2-0) vs Karolina Kowalkiewicz (10-1-0)

Kelvin Gastelum (14-2-0) vs Anderson Silva (34-8-0, 1NC)

Antonio Carlos Jr. (7-2-0) vs Eric Spicely (10-1-0)

Johnny Eduardo (28-10-0) vs Matthew Lopez (9-1-0)

Marco Beltran vs Deiveson Alcantara (11-0-0)

More bouts are expected to be announced.
