The Andrews Report – Tonya Evinger sets the record straight at Invicta FC 22
Invicta FC 22 is now in the books and while we saw some great fights, one of the biggest statements of the night was bantamweight champion Tonya Evinger and former Invicta FC strawweight champion Livia Renata Souza.
Evinger submitted Russian Yana Kunitskaya after nearly being choked out herself by a guillotine choke in the first round. That’s 10 straight wins (the no-contest excluded) for “Triple Threat.”
One bout earlier, Souza quickly dispatched current atomweight champion Ayaka Hamasaki needing just 4:32 to finish her with strikes.
Souza said afterwards that she was “pissed off” about her last performance in which she lost the belt by split-decision to Angela Hill. She believes she is the best strawweight and is looking for a rematch for the title.
Carla Esparza (11-4-0) will try to return to the win column when she takes on the returning Maryna Moroz (8-1-0), while Felice Herrig (12-6-0) takes on Justine Kish (6-0-0) at UFC Fight Night 112 June 25.
