Former UFC lightweight champion Benson Henderson. (24-7-0) will look to regain some momentum in Bellator as he takes on Patricky Freire (17-8-0) in the main event of San Jose’s Bellator 183 on Sept. 23.

Henderson is 1-2-0 in the Bellator cage since moving over from the octagon and despite coming close to capturing the belt in 2016, he needs a win to stay in the conversation and another shot at lightweight champion Michael Chandler.

“Smooth” takes on the brother of Patrick Friere, whom he defeated at Bellator 160 via injury stoppage. Like Henderson, Freire has also lost to the champion Chandler, but is coming off an impressive first-round TKO win over Josh Thomson at Bellator 172.

The card is will be broadcast free on Spike TV beginning at 9 p.m. ET/6 p.m. PT.

Making his debut will be former UFC heavyweight contender Roy Nelson (22-14-0), who will take on Javy Ayala (10-5-0).

In a Bellator welterweight kickboxing title defence, Karim Ghajji (97-13-1, 50 KOs) defends against Raymond Daniels (11-3-0) in the Bellator 7 kickboxing portion.

More bouts are expected to be announced.
