“And we know Mr. Tapout likes to quit:” Floyd Mayweather Jr. and Conor McGregor verbally spar at Los Angeles world press tour
It seems Mayweather Jr. was prepared to launch some zingers of his own at the Irish MMA superstar.
McGregor, the current UFC lightweight champion, addressed the microphone first, making some good comments about Mayweather Jr.’s casual attire and predicting he will knock out the former pound-for-pound king out within four rounds.
He also threw some jabs at Mayweather Jr.’s alleged IRS tax problems.
“If this was a true fight, it wouldn’t even take one round,” he said to the cheers of the pro-McGregor crowd at the Staples Center.
Mayweather Jr. took the stage afterwards and embellished his boxing record while attacking McGregor’s financial status.
“He look good for a 7-figure fighter. He look good for an 8-figure fighter. But motherf—-r, I’m a 9-figure fighter!”
But perhaps his best dig at “Notorious” was when he said, referring primarily to McGregor’s submission loss to Nate Diaz at UFC 196, “And we know Mr. Tapout likes to quit. And you will wave that white flag ’cause you can choose which way you want to go. And I’m guaranteeing you this. You’re going out on your face or you’re going out on your back. Which way do you want to go?
After McGregor failed to respond, Mayweather Jr. finished it with “That’s right. Sit quiet, you little b—h.”
The tour now moves to Toronto Tuesday July 12 at the Budweiser Arena at the Sony Centre.
