UFC on FOX 25: Weidman vs Gastelum predictions
Kenai Andrews checks in with his thoughts on the main card.
MAIN CARD (8PM ET/5PM PT)
#4 JIMMIE RIVERA (20-1-0) VS #9 THOMAS ALMIEDA (21-1-0)
Andrews: Almieda is a dynamic striker and will be dangerous on the feet, but Rivera will limit his effectiveness by taking the fight to the ground and grind out a decision.
Andrews Prediction: Jimmie Rivera via unanimous decision
#12 PATRICK CUMMINS (9-4-0) VS #13 GIAN VILLANTE (15-7-0)
Andrews: Cummins is a grappler who can strike with power, which makes this one a tough call. All four of Cummins’ losses have been by knockout, so I can see Villante landing one, but I’m going to go with Cummins being careful enough to grind out a win.
Andrews Prediction: Patrick Cummins via unanimous decision
#10 DENNIS BERMUDEZ (17-6-0) VS #12 DARREN ELKINS (23-5-0)
Andrews: Another tough call. Bermudez has looked good of late until the Korean Zombie knockout, but Elkins is the comeback kid. Concerns about his gas tank have been recently silenced by Bermudez, but Elkins is kind of grappler to rekindle them. Bermudez needs a quick start, otherwise, the advantage will be Elkins.
Andrews Prediction: Darren Elkins via split-decision
#5 CHRIS WEIDMAN (13-3-0) VS #8 KELVIN GASTELUM (13-2-0, 1NC)
Andrews: Is Chris Weidman turning into Anderson Silva? Weidman will have the reach and height advantage, but Gastelum’s boxing is crisp and he has good grappling and takedown defence as well. I’m going with the upset with Gastelum shocking the Long Island home crowd.
Andrews Prediction: Kelvin Gastelum via TKO
