Detroit’s UFC 218 will get a pair of top heavyweight strikers when No.4 Francis Ngannou (10-1-0) takes on No.1 Alistair Overeem (43-15-0, 1NC).

Ngannou had been vocal recently about wanting to get back into the octagon quickly. After a contest with Junior dos Santos fizzled out, Overeem stepped in to answer “The Predator’s” challenge.

Overeem, 37, is a former K-1, Strikeforce and DREAM heavyweight champion looking to capture the primary UFC belt that has eluded him. After losing to champion Stipe Miocic via TKO at UFC 203 in September 2016, he rebounded to stop Mark Hunt and majority decision Fabricio Werdum at UFC 213 in July.

Ngannou 31, has finished all five of his fights inside the octagon within two rounds. He stopped former champion Andrei Arlovski in 92 seconds at UFC on FOX 23 in January.

UFC 218 is scheduled for Dec. 2 at the Little Caesars Arena in Detroit. Tickets go on sale to the general public on Oct. 13. The card currently includes:

Alistair Overeem (43-15-0, 1NC) vs. Francis Ngannou (10-1-0)

Eddie Alvarez (28-5-0) vs. Justin Gaethje (18-0-0)

Henry Cejudo (11-2-0) vs. Sergio Pettis (16-2-0)

Felice Herring (13-6-0) vs. Cortney Casey (7-4-0)

Angela Magana (11-8-0) vs. Amanda Bobby Cooper (2-3-0)

Dominick Reyes (7-0-0) vs. Jeremy Kimball (15-6-0)

Abdul Razak Alhassan (7-1-0) vs. Sabah Homasi (11-6-0)

Justin Willis (5-1-0) vs Allen Crowder (7-2-0)

More bouts are expected to be announced.
