Cody Crowley (13-0-0, 7 KOs) successfully defended his Canadian Professional Boxing Council (CPBC) over Richard Holmes (14-8-0, 8 KOs) last night at the Peterborough Memorial Centre but not in the way he probably wanted.
Holmes was unable to continue after suffering a low blow from Crowley in the sixth round. Crowley was deducted a point from referee Mark Simmonds and after a five minute recovery period was ineffective and after consulting with the rules, Crowley was awarded a TKO win.
Holmes claimed he was hit by four low blows during the fight. “The first one I walked off,” he told reporters afterwards. “The second one I got a cramp so I went down. I started back again and he caught me one more time with a low blow so I started to move. The last one was the worst. When the doctor squeezed my testicle I felt like I wanted to pee.”
The premature result left Crowley and the capacity crowd wanting.
