The UFC moves from the TUF 26 Finale in Las Vegas to the confines of Detroit’s Little Caesar’s Arena for UFC 218. With original featherweight title challenger Frankie Edgar on the injury shelf, former champion Jose Aldo looks to rebound in a rematch with champ Max Holloway.
Kenai Andrews checks in with his thoughts.
UFC FIGHT PASS EARLY PRELIMS (6:15PM ET/3:15PM PT)
JUSTIN WILLIS (5-1-0) VS. ALLEN CROWDER (9-2-0, 1NC)
Andrews: Willis looked much more then 265 at the weigh ins. He showed surprisingly good cardio in his debut, while Crowder, who appeared on the Dana White Contender Series, is making his first appearance in the octagon. I have to go with The Big Pretty get the finish.
Andrews Prediction: Justin Willis via TKO
JEREMY KIMBALL (15-6-0) VS. DOMINICK REYES (7-0-0)
Andrews: On paper, this looks like a win for Reyes, who has significant height and reach advantages. But Kimball is an aggressive bulldog, who goes out on his shield, so I am going for Kimball in the upset.
Andrews Prediction: Jeremy Kimball via TKO
SABAH HOMASI (11-6-0) VS. ABDUL RAZAK ALHASSAN (7-1-0)
Andrews: Tough fight to call as both are trying to rebound from losses. They both looked good at the weigh-ins too. Going to go with Homasi.
Andrews Prediction: Sabah Homasi via UD
AMANDA COOPER (3-3-0) VS. ANGELA MAGANA (11-8-0)
Andrews: These two had some words at the weigh-ins but Magana needs a win badly. She’s lost four in a row but could be on the bubble if she loses again. That could be the motivation to get the win, so I’m going with “Your Majesty.”
Andrews Prediction: Angela Magana via SD
TSN 2 PRELIMS (8PM ET/5PM PT)
#9 FELICE HERRIG (13-6-0) VS. #11 CORTNEY CASEY (7-4-0)
Andrews: Casey is a tough girl, but I think Herrig can get the fight to the ground and get the tap.
Andrews Prediction: Felice Herrig via submission
DAVID TEYMUR (6-1-0) VS. DRAKKAR KLOSE (8-0-1)
Andrews: Klose will have the hometown hero, but I have to go with Teymur who showed what he can do against Lando in his last fight.
Andrews Prediction: David Teymur via UD
#15 ALEX OLIVEIRA (17-3-1, 2NC) VS. YANCY MEDERIOS (14-4-0, 1NC)
Andrews: A dandy matchup. Mederios has the skills and the quickness, but Cowboy has the power. Yancy will survive the fire and get the decision.
Andrews Prediction: Yancy Mederios via UD
CHARLES OLIVEIRA (22-7-0, 1NC) VS. PAUL FELDER (14-3-0)
Andrews: Another great matchup. Felder is on a roll but I am concerned that he waits to counter too much against more athletic and active opponents. Oliveira is such an opponent to give Felder fits. But Felder, if he can connect, will have the power advantage.
Andrews Prediction: Paul Felder via TKO
MAIN CARD (10PM ET/7PM PT)
#5 TECIA TORRES (9-1-0) VS. #6 MICHELLE WATERSON (14-5-0)
Andrews: Waterson is always a tough chick, but Tecia Torres is too quick and active for her to keep up. Tecia will pile up the points en route to a decision win.
Andrews Prediction: Tecia Torres via UD
#4 EDDIE ALVAREZ (28-5-0, 1NC) VS. #5 JUSTIN GAETHJE (18-0-0)
Andrews: Which Alvarez will show up? Still, Goethje should have enough in the tank to withstand the Philly assault and come back for the finish.
Andrews Prediction: Justin Gaethje via TKO
#2 HENRY CEJUDO (11-2-0) VS. #4 SERGIO PETTIS (16-2-0)
Andrews: Sergio has a 5-inch reach advantage but can he use it? I like Cejudo’s wrestling and I think he will use it to grind Pettis if the striking game isn’t working.
Andrews Prediction: Henry Cejudo via UD
#1 ALISTAIR OVEREEM (43-15-0, 1NC) VS. #4 FRANCIS NGANNOU (10-1-0)
Andrews: Is there any doubt? The Predator.
Andrews Prediction: Francis Ngannou via TKO
MAX HOLLOWAY (18-3-0) VS. JOSE ALDO (26-3-0)
Andrews: The great reign of Jose Aldo came to an end with Max Holloway. Holloway has next generation tools while Aldo has yesterday’s tools. The result is predictable.
Andrews Prediction: Max Holloway via TKO
