Invicta FC announced Jan. 11 that current UFC women’s bantamweight champion Amanda Nunes (15-4-0) has joined the company as an ambassador.

Nunes, 29, competed in Invicta from January 2012 to January 2013 and will advise the company on grassroots talent in her home country of Brazil and act as a general spokesperson.

“I’ve known and worked with Amanda for a long time, going all the way back to our Strikeforce days,” Invicta FC president Shannon Knapp added. “She was already part of the Invicta family, but now it’s official. I can’t think of a better ambassador for the sport and our organization.”

In 2016, Nunes was awarded an Equality Visbility award.

“The Lioness” will begin her first assignment at the Invicta FC 27 weigh-in tonight in Kansas City.

Invicta FC 27 is scheduled for Saturday Jan. 13 and features bantamweights Sarah Kaufman and Pannie Kianzad in the main event.
