UFC Fight Night 124: Jeremy Stephens kryptonites the Korean Superboy

No. 9 featherweight Jeremy Stephens (27-14-0) absorbed all the punishment No. 13 Dooho Choi (14-3-0) could dish out and inflicted even more of his own, dropping the Korean Superboy in devastating fashion in the main event of UFC Fight Night 124 in St. Louis Sunday evening.

“Lil’ Heathen,” was a betting underdog coming into the contest, even after battering Gilbert Melendez’s legs in his last fight. The first round saw Choi smartly moving in and out of the pocket, cautiously launching kicks and strikes, trying to soften up Stephens, who held the centre of cage and landed some shots of his own. Choi landed right hands and combinations that backed up Stephens and took the first round.

Both fighters missed some murderous uppercuts early on in the second round. Stephens increased the pressure with some stiff jabs and started to back Choi up. A sweeping right hook knocked Choi down to the canvas and follow-up strikes forced the referee Keith Peterson to halt the bout at 2:36.

Stephens called out unbeaten fighter Brian Ortega – who was cageside – in the post-fight interview with Paul Felder.

Choi and Stephens collected Fight of the Night honours, while Darren Elkins and Polo Reyes earned performances of the night. Each fighter earned a $50,000 USD bonus.

WINNER: JESSICA ROSE-CLARK VIA UD (30-27, 29-28, 29-28)

ANDREWS PREDICTION: PAIGE VANZANT VIA UD
