ONE Championship – Iron Will: Nguyen looks for title trifecta against Fernandes

ONE Championship featherweight and lightweight champion Martin Nguyen (10-1-0) is looking to make history yet again at ONE Championship 68: Iron Will in March, he is looking to take it one step further against bantamweight champ Bibiano Fernandes (21-3-0).

“It’s a tremendous matchup, and one that the whole world wants to see,” Chatri Sityodtong, chairman and CEO of ONE Championship said in a press release. “I have no doubt that these two warriors will be putting on a great show for everyone watching live in Bangkok.”

Nguyen, 28, unseated Eduard Folayang at ONE: Legends of the World last November for the lightweight belt. A similar result on March 24 and “The Situ-Asian” can become the company’s first three-division concurrent champion.

Nguyen revealed in an interview with ONE that he was already planning to challenge Fernandes while training for Folayang.

It won’t be easy however.

“Lightning,” 37, has defended the 135-pound crown six times since unifying the belt in October 2013. Most recently, he secured a submission win over Andrew Leone at ONE: Kings and Conquerors in August 2017.

ONE Championship 68: Iron Will is scheduled for March 24 at the Impact Arena in Bangkok, Thailand.

More bouts are expected to be announced.
