UFC 224: Vitor Belfort confirms retirement bout with Lyoto Machida

Former UFC 12 Tournament champion Vitor Belfort (26-13-0, 1NC) confirmed on his Instagram account yesterday that his final bout is scheduled for UFC 224 in his home country of Rio de Janeiro, Brazil.

His countryman Lyoto Machida (23-8-0) will be his opponent.

Belfort, 40, was supposed to fight Uriah Hall at UFC Fight Night 124 in January, but Hall failed to make weight for the bout due to illness. His last contest was a unanimous decision win over Nate Marquardt (who recently retired) at UFC 212 in June 2017.

Machida, 39, recently decisioned Eryk Anders at UFC Fight Night 125, snapping a three-fight losing skid.

UFC 224 is scheduled for May 12 at the Jeunesse Arena in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. Current bouts include:

Vitor Belfort (26-13-0, 1NC) vs. Lyoto Machida (23-8-0)

Alexey Oleynik (55-11-1) vs. Junior Albini (14-3-0)

Alberto Mina (13-0-0) vs. Ramazan Emeev (16-3-0)

Davi Ramos (7-2-0) vs. Nick Hein (14-2-0)

More bouts are expected to be announced.
