The UFC confirmed yesterday that bantamweight champion Amanda Nunes (15-4-0) will defend her crown against No. 2 Raquel Pennington (9-6-0) at Rio’s UFC 224 in May.

Pennington, 29, last fought at UFC 205 in November 2016, decisioning Miesha Tate. She has a four fight win streak in her back pocket and will have a height and reach advantage over the champion.

Nunes has won six consecutive fights coming into this contest, including a split-decision victory over Valentina Shevchenko at UFC 215 in September 2017. The 29-year-old is considered by president Dana White to be featherweight champion Cris Cyborg’s next opponent, if she can get past Pennington.

UFC 224 is scheduled for May 12 at the Jeunesse Arena in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. Other bouts include:
