UFC Fight Night 133: dos Santos vs. Ivanov predictions
The UFC is in Boise, Idaho Saturday evening as former champion Junior dos Santos welcomes Bulgarian upstart Blagoy Ivanov to the octagon.
Ivanov is looking to make a North American impression far beyond his WSOF and PFL heavyweight titles with a definitive victory over dos Santos, who has been a ranked UFC heavyweight contender for many years.
Kenai Andrews checks in with his thoughts on the main card.
#6 CAT ZINGANO (9-3-0) VS. #7 MARION RENEAU (9-3-1)
Andrews: Zingano desperately wants to end her three fight losing streak, but Reneau is on a tear, looking impressive in her last fight against Sara McMann. We should see an improved “Alpha Cat,” but “The Belizean Bruiser” will have her number in Idaho.
Andrews Prediction: Marion Reneau via UD
#12 MYLES JURY (17-2-0) VS. CHAD MENDES (17-4-0)
Andrews: Mendes is coming back form a two year suspension and for a round or two can end the fight quickly with his explosiveness and wrestling. Can Jury keep the fight standing and use his strikes to dictate the fight? I think he can.
Andrews Prediction: Myles Jury via UD
RANDY BROWN (10-2-0) VS. NIKO PRICE (11-1-0, 1NC)
Andrews: I like Price’s speed and strikes, which will keep Brown on the defensive and nullify his length. Plus, he can tap him if the fight goes to the ground.
Andrews Prediction: Niko Price via UD
DENNIS BERMUDEZ (17-8-0) VS. RICK GLENN (20-5-1)
Andrews: Bermudez needs a win, but his last three losses have been close, except the Korean Zombie knockout. Can Glenn keep the fight standing and take the starch out of Bermudez? I think “The Menace” finally breaks through.
Andrews Prediction: Dennis Bermudez via TKO
SAGE NORTHCUTT (10-2-0) VS. ZAK OTTOW (16-5-0)
Andrews: “Super” has improved since easing his fight schedule. He has two decision wins in his last fights and should get another here as long as he gets the takedown and lands some strikes. Ottow put away Mike Pyle so he’s no pushover, but Sage will have to make some mistakes for him to win.
Andrews Prediction: Sage Northcutt via UD
#8 JUNIOR DOS SANTOS (18-5-0) VS. BLAGOY IVANOV (16-1-1)
Andrews: Dos Santos hasn’t won consecutive bouts since 2012 but is always dangerous with his boxing but can he avoid the takedown and wrestling of the Sambo king? We saw what happened when Cain did it. I think the Cain experience will help dos Santos overcome Ivanov.
Andrews Prediction: Junior dos Santos via UD
