UFC 229: Tony Ferguson returns to face Anthony Pettis

Former interim lightweight champion No. 2 Tony Ferguson (23-3-0) is now healthy and will take on former champion No. 8 Anthony Pettis (21-7-0) at UFC 229 in Las Vegas.

Fighting on the same card as champion Khabib Nurmagomedov and Conor McGregor, the winner of this bout will likely be at the top of the conversation for the next title shot.

“El Cucuy,” 34, had a title shot at UFC 223 in April, but surrendered it  to McGregor when he pulled out with an injury to his fibular collateral ligament. He has an impressive 10 fight win streak, with a submission win over Kevin Lee in his last bout at UFC 216 last October.

“Showtime,” 31, has split his last four bouts but is coming off a good submission win over Michael Chiesa at UFC 226 in July. His brother Sergio, is also fighting on the card.

UFC 229 is set for Oct. 6 at the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas. Tentative bouts include:

Khabib Nurmagomedov (26-0-0) vs. Conor McGregor (21-3-0)

Tony Ferguson (23-3-0) vs. Anthony Pettis (21-8-0)

Sergio Pettis (17-3-0) vs. Jussier Formiga (21-5-0)

Dominick Reyes (9-0-0) vs. Ovince St. Preux (23-11-0)

Alexander Volkov (30-6-0) vs. Derrick Lewis (20-5-0)
